Glad I stayed out of this one 
By all means get plod involved, but home detective work usually comes to nothing & therefore is not a good use of that precious commodity, time. MID database for example, apparently can take up to 2 weeks to update. At least this is what I was given to believe when I recently picked up a new car; the dealer told me to carry my insurance certificate & receipt of VED payment for at least a couple of weeks - just in case....

I hate tobacco smoke, it reeks to high heaven (maybe because a parent quit smoking). Hash smoke, on the other hand, doesn't bother me. Except I feel a bit odd after being exposed to it.

They had a call from someone passing in there car, I was actually well happy that they had bothered with to come and have a butchers.

Set up a vigilante squad??
Its a bit like neighbourhood watch schemes - do the scrote thieves take any notice whatsoever?
The only answer I can see is upping tax to put humongous quantities of plod on the street to deal with bike theft. Not holding my breath....
If I get up from this computer. Take 2 steps to my right. I can look out the window and see the bike tent. It's not like I staked the place out for a week under a camo net with night vision goggles.
If you are the legal owner of a bike and can prove it easily, why would it take 2 months to get back?
The big one (not a million miles away from AshleyMan if his dashcams are anything to go by) well I went there (for something else unrelated) a while back and it took 30 mins to even get seen.1 person who tbh wasn't a Police, just some admin woman who knew very little!

And I have to say public weed use seems increasingly common. Based purely on the amount you smell out and about. And I'm not sure I approve of that. If they just sat inside with the windows closed. Rock on, but driving seems especially stupid
I presume if someone steals your number plate but not your bike that'll be fine though. After all a poster on this thread kinda hinted it was a st load of bother to sort out.

Its funny, I've never smoked. But I can tolerate Fag smoke more than Cannabis. My dashcam provided much evidence, and I enjoyed the free parking right outside my house at any time of day for a couple months without getting parking tickets.

I think the delays were caused due to the police suspecting the garage owner or tenant was involved in illegal bike trades, as the busybody had seen 3 different bikes and 2 different cars being taken into and out of the garage - in addition to me not being a known local.
Was a bloody nightmare.
ETA: The crowning glory in the whole sorry tale was a police officer gleefully telling me my stolen Ducati had been recovered from a lockup where they believed a thief was storing stolen bikes!

I'd be the same here. In all my years doing it I must've seen or heard 50+ mx bikes nicked and less than 5 recovered They had a call from someone passing in there car, I was actually well happy that they had bothered with to come and have a butchers.

Mini update.
The bike has gone. I just saw someone I didn't recognise (not my neighbour) riding it away the other day (still on the same 55 plate) I got a much better look at it this time. I was right about the plate but not the engine capacity. It was a Yamaha TDM 900. Identical to this one.
Of course the plate is registered to a Honda Shadow VT600 like this
My neighbour still has his Chinese bike, I've seen him riding it about since the other Yam went. Whilst I've not been around 24.7 this last week, I haven't seen anything to suggest the Police have taken any interest at all. And now, its too late
With hindsight was the KTM also stolen? Who knows. I do wonder if there'll be other bikes in the future that turn up. But this was probably the easiest slam dunk Id have thought.
I'm really disappointed by the whole situation tbh.

I love how whenever someone posts about a stolen bike people are up in arms about the thieving scum, but as soon as someone thinks they might have seen a stolen bike people have a go at him.
As a TDM owner, is have to say they're not generally considered that attractive to thieves, I only know of one stolen one from several hundred members of the owners club in the last 10 years or so. if you want to pm me the details I can check on the owners forum if anyone's heard of it being stolen or seen it for sale.

You've taken the advice of a car dealer about something upon which he is highly unlikely to be qualified to comment and you expect to be taken even slightly seriously?
