My girlfriend recently completed her CBT (twist and go only) and is currently riding a 125cc scooter.

She is in her 40's and has held a car licence since turning 17.

I'm a little unsure as to whether or not she had to ride with L plates? Or because of her age and the length of time she has held a driving licence, there is no legal requirement to?

Yes she does need to.

If it was a 50cc it would be classed as a moped which she would have full entitlement for on her car licence given when she passed, so wouldn't need to. But she will only have provisional for a 125, therefore needs L plates, can't take a pillion, can't ride on motorways.

Yes unfortunately the dreaded L plate. I think iof you ride a 125 and have completed a cbt + hold a full car licence there should be no requirement for the damn things, but then i don't get to make the rules.

That's where I got confused.
I'd read about not having to display them for a moped, but wasn't 100% if it applied to other size scooters too.

Nope, just 50cc. It's the engine size/power that defines a moped, not the style of bike.
