Currently keeping my fingers crossed for decent weather this weekend, as off to the race at Oliver's Mount in the Cock O'The North meeting. The following Sunday it is off for round 2 of Tonfanau in mid Wales and then a few weeks off to prepare for the Ulster GP in early August.

Donny 1000km race is tempting. Trouble is I've only been there one and that was about 5 years ago. Plus I don't have time to do a test day before the race. I think I'll make a last minute call on it nearer the time. See how I get on in Brno and Spa next week
My mate John may jump on that with you.
hebegb and loon will vouch for him being quick enough.

I'm racing on Sunday and have just been given my race number. 93! Guess I'll be Marc Marquez for the three hour enduro near Lancaster then.

I think I'll fall off even more than he does hehe

How do you guys get on for fitness during the endurance races? I know I can keep a reasonably consistent pace in a track day session of 20 minutes but not much more and even that can be a struggle as I don't really do any exercise.

How long are the stints that you do and can you keep a consistent pace during that time?
I've only done the 1 endurance race and that was at Oulton with the artist formally known as Loon. We agreed to 30 min spells on the bike and while we perhaps could have done a little extra, I think that worked well for us. We were certainly pleased to see the pit lane!

Lap times were fairly consistent, with traffic more often than not dictating any dips. We both did 3 stints each with the second session probably being our strongest.

As for exercise, can you please explain this alien concept
I remember it well.

Enduro race day for me. Three hours riding up and down some fells in the middle of nowhere near Lancaster. My fitness is non-existent, my skill level even lower, so not expecting much.

Good luck mate. If you're not going to win, go out in style smile

Thanks

There's zero chance of winning as some experts here. If I finish it'll be a miracle.

Wow. That was incredible and ridiculously tough I've never had to spend three hours solid using my clutch and throttle and brake before and am cramping like there's no tomorrow.

Up and down hills that I couldn't walk up or down is quite frightening

Took a wrong turn on the first lap and ended up doing the Hard section which was eye opening. Also lost count of the number of crashes I had, although there were at least two mahoosive ones.

Can't believe I finished it. Well chuffed.

How competitively do people take the event? I'm tempted, but don't fancy the idea of someone forcing their way through on a technical section, etc?

Did you go alone, or have some help for refuelling, etc?

Doing another one?!

The simple answer is very competitively and it can get a bit frustrating at times. However, you put pressure on yourself and on some of the sections it was one bike wide only, so if they hassled me too much then they'd get held up as I'd panic and fall off hehe

There are normally at least two routes though, an easy and a hard. The hard route is much shorter, but very difficult. I took a wrong turn in the first lap and took the hard route. Whilst I made it there's no way I'd recommend it and found the easy route after that. The "easy" route isn't that easy though. I think the organisers need a dictionary.

I went with a mate who was also riding, but no support as it's not needed. It's a completely different set up to shirt circuit riding / racing. I brimmed the tank before we started and after three hours still had fuel in the tank. If I had needed to top up then I'd have used my jerry can and plastic jug that I use on my trackbike. At my low skill level I don't use a lot of fuel at all and the bike is never banging off the limiter in any gear.

I won't be rushing to do another, as I'm covered in bruises today, but as with everything that won't last and I'll probably do this again next year. There is an event run at Tong, near Bradford that's designed for complete novices called a Dead Easy event and it's only 1.5 hours long, so a better starting point. If you are considering this, then wear full impact protection, knee pads, hips, chest, arms, shoulders and back protection. I've definitely saved broken bones by wearing this kit.

Just got back from a Euro trip to Brno. Really got my mojo back on the bike and was talking to someone who runs a team in the endurance series about being their wildcard spare rider for the 1000kms at Donny.

Nothing's decided yet, but I'm going to hit the gym so I'm ready if I get called up. Although it sounds like a relatively experienced team in terms of mechanics and pit support, it's not the quickest bunch of riders on the grid but I expect them to get a solid middle of the pack result and it sounds like it could be a laugh with so many PHBB riders in the race. I'll let you guys know if it gets confirmed.

Good lad. It'll be mint if you get along to that too
It should be a fun day, and I'm still trying to work out how we can get a hot tub in our garage smile

I'm all packed and ready to go for the coming Test Day at Oulton on Friday and racing on Saturday. Quite giddy about this, as I've never done a sprint race before, so the standing start could be interesting. I'm in Newcomers1000 running number 5 if anyone is coming down.

Cool. I'll be there at 4pm when the paddock opens as want to get a decent slot in a garage.

Looks like we are combined with the slower of the Club1000 riders for the test day Fri so should be good fun as was the last test at Anglesey - really smooth chilled efficient tracktime , can't wait smile

It'll be good to get out on track with you tomorrow
I'm only there for the test day until around 1pm as my 16yr old Son has his Prom tomorrow night, so I've got a 3-4hour drive down the motorway in the afternoon, just to drive back up again late Friday night
Saturday morning awareness might be a challenge smile

Unfortunately, after minor family crisis, I didn't get back up to Oulton this morning
Hope you guys all have a great race day, although I'm not seeing any of your names on the live timing yet ?
