I would expect that to be there for some time at that price.

Perhaps.
How much do you think a brand new superbike should cost? R1M, S1000RR (optioned), BladeSP2, Pani1299S, F4RR all c.£20k+ by the time you equip them similarly.
How much are the new homologation/limited edition superbikes? 1299FinalEdition, HP4, SuperLeg, F4RC, etc all between £30-70k.
£26k for a brand new, historically significant, homologation, SBK winning superbike with significant legacy suddenly seems quite reasonable.

But it's old hat. They are a lovely bike but should they be priced similarly to the RC30? I don't think so.

How much would you pay for a brand new out the box GSXR1000 K5? That is also a SBK Championship winning bike

Interesting. The vast majority of bikes such as the HP4, Super Leg and so on are purchased to ride. Yeah, some don't get ridden much at all but the intention is usually there. Anyway, not all those types of bikes hold their value very well - championship winner or not.

Hunts selling a new RC30 at £60k, so it's not like-for-like. RC30 will always retain a premium over the RC51.
GSXR1000K5 has not much special about it other than being a very good bike. At the end of the day, lots of old bikes that fetch stronger money than perhaps we think they should... What should be questioned is if the new bikes should be as expensive as they are!

Dont forget about inflation in your calculations of bikes "going up in value".

A mainstream superbike in 1989, when they were 750s, cost about £5500 to £6000. Thats £13-14K in todays money and now you get a litre bike with electronics, 2x the power and 20% less weight.

More exotic bikes like RC30 or Bimota were £8500 to £12k - thats £19K to £27k today, so similar to high end versions of todays top end superbikes

Now look at something like an MT09 for £7999, that would have been a £3k bike in 1989 ...which would not have got you a sports 250 or even a middleweight 600

So In real value terms bikes are as good, if not better than value than ever smile
