"Sources close to Honda suggest this will be the end of the line for the Louth-based squad and Martin, with no plans at present to continue the relationship into 2018." (MCN: Roads: Guy Martin out of Ulster Grand Prix)

Well, that did not take too long...

Having just read his autobiography he doesn't sound particularly bothered whose bikes he rides, who sponsors him, or even whether he races or not. I like the guy, and he certainly has a very down to earth attitude, but he sounds perhaps a little too blasé about everything to do with bike racing.

Hardly surprising, after having to bite his tongue when the Fireblade chucked him up the road. I don't think he's anyone's biatch.

Odd, I just read it and at the end end he spends quite a bit of time saying that he had bigger offers but wanted to stay at Honda, where he had been for quite a few years?

Sorry, got the wrong end of the stick, I have just read the John Mcguiness book and got confused...ignore my previous post....though it was better to add this than edit and delete the previous. The Mcguiness book is ace by the way

No worries. I might check out the Mcguiness book myself.

I saw them TT clips where Guy was talking about the Honda gearbox, definitely seemed shook up in a big way, but having binned a bike at 160+ mph might do that to a guy.....

Very true, I read in the book that a lot of riders get on the TT and park it up never to return based on how scary it can be in places

Binning the bike at that speed they generally aren't that arsed about, not knowing why it's spat him off is entirely different.

He knows exactly what happened, the gearbox hit a false neutral. I think he said it had happened in practise too. He was not a happy puppy with the Honda gear box.

I doubt many riders fall of at 160+ and "aren't arsed about it". He broke his back in one such crash, got well burned in a huge fireball in another. If it were me I'd have shat myself.

Personally I doubt we'll see him back. He's off the pace now and doesn't seem too bothered. Bit of PR disaster for Honda really.

You know what i mean you bugger.

They didn't know what was wrong with the box hence him not wanting to ride it again.

Crashing is part of the territory so not arsed about it is a figure of speech.

I get the point. Not being able to trust your gearbox won't give you a false neutral would make me not want to race it (as if I could!) If something broke, make it stronger, rider error, don't do that again, but a mystery like that wouldn't sit well.

I did get the distinct impression he was not saying all he actually wanted to say.

Reading the book, he is talking about doing 195 along some stretches........ almost enough to make me give up riding altogether!

And doing it with a dodgy gearbox.....no thank you. eekeek

He's just realised there is a LOT more to life, and living, than racing motorbikes. It isn't the be all to him, rightly so.

On a Honda previously, yes. But not the new one, don't think anyone has yet. Not in WSBK, not in BSB, not in RR and we will see this weekend if it wins at Suzuka.

He actually prefers to be spannering on trucks, by the sounds of the book. Plus he does mention other riders who have nothing in their lives, and when their racing days are over, they are empty.

I met him at the Ring last year. Nice chap. I said I was reading his book and enjoying it, his Mrs chimed in 'you mean my book!'

I think maybe she did a fair bit of work on it. Lovely chap though

Most of the bits on my Cossie pug 205 were made by Mark Walker who features a bit in his books, he did the Martek stuff plus the Cossie pickup and did the technical advice on the wall of death bike. From what Mark tells me Guy has hundreds of projects in the offing.

The worst outcome would be for him to keep racing under the illusion that he has something to prove when in fact he's nothing to prove to anyone...
Multiple Ulster/Scarborough/Southern wins don't come easily!
