Who has purchased a new Africa Twin?

For those that have taken advantage of the deal, did you do it because it was just such a cheap PCP deal, or did you genuinely want one?
I've wanted something soft and squidgy to use as a bit of a slag. I hadn't really considered the Africa Twin until I saw the offer and it just seemed to fit.Chicken Chaser said:

I'd been looking at that sort of bike for a while, looked at triumphs, BMWs, tracers, etc, this deal came at the right time for me. I test rode one a while back but it seemed expensive and I ended up buying a secondhand GS1200.
The GS went to make way for another Blade but I really miss it and then to find out I can have a AT to complement it for £70/month it didn't take much in the way of man maths!
Pick mine up Saturday

I got mine of a FB AT site for £40
they cost around £80 with taxes etc.
I would snap this up quick
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Swegotech-fork-shield-de...
But there is another option on ebay from UK
I have also gone for this - It is a batzen riser that is made by a guy in Germany. I have his email if you need it, it is the only way to buy it as he doesn't sell to distributors.

I'm just impulsive. On this thread you can see me in the space of 5 hours or so go from a casual interest, to putting down a deposit. I still haven't fully weighed up what I'm doing or even read the finance agreement. I have also whacked well over a grand on bits, bobs, and insurance on the zero percent credit cards whilst I supposed to be saving for Christmas. My mates have nick named my bike the "Uganda Twin", owing to my overt willingness to take on debt without so much as a thought. (I can however comfortably afford it, so let's leave that there).
I have literally spent more time choosing phone covers than this motorcycle. I have never ridden a proper adventure bike, I didn't know until 20 minutes before the test ride that it wasn't a V-twin, or even how to sit on the bloody thing. I have some idea of what I want to do with it, chiefly because I own a DVD of "the long way round" and I will take it off road, but have negligible experience, so expect to smash it so badly I won't be able to return it in three years time.
But I think in my defense, motorcycles purchases don't really make much sense in general. I think if you start tying to rationalise these things you end up in those horrible circular arguments about "the real world", and "making use of it", then you'd basically be better off on the bus with all those soppy s spending £1,000 on a fking iPhone. The bottom line is, there's what you think you want, and what you can get away with. fk everything else.

I wanted a bigger commuter bike. Saw this and bought one in less than an hour. Then decided I wasn't going to retire my existing commuting bike and use this for adventuring in it's purest form. Then i spent a grand on bits for it.
It has given me the kick up the ass to get my 'classic' R1 sold, as my garage is packed to the rafters now. Having a 4th motorbike sat there not being used is a bit silly.
I'm a bit nervous about taking it off road, it's a beast of a bike at low speed, getting it out of the garage it is really heavy and low speed corners make me nervous without the clutch to help you.
I reckon i would do some slight off road but no serious deep rutted stuff. I was speaking to a serious enduro guy at the weekend and they all go off on their KTM's and there is one guy who does it on an AT!

Having just got back from my second year running on the BMW off road skills course (on a 1200GS) the AT looks like a scrambler! You'd be amazed what a big ADV bike can do of road. I love a KTM400 type bike for enduro stuff but still always get off a GS in amazement and what they can do. Climbs and descents that you couldnt walk up or down without going on all fours and ruts filled with water above your boot tops.

I'm looking at this one too, it seems a perfect solution to get the screen a little higher without it being substantially larger. I think I'd have to replace the thumb screws with "normal" allen bolts though!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UknbQjc3euo
I will let you know how i get on. Once you are set to where you need it you can replace thumb screws, but i will keep them in for when the wife rides it as she will need to adjust it.
