If not I can see why you want to go finance as it’s easy.
This - 2 year commuter tool, possibly.

I normally rinse and repeat every 2-3 years. Hoping this will last 4 years and I wanted the warranty cover so bought new.

What is your commuting mileage? Anything over 15k per annum I would probably buy new, but that is just my opinion.

Commuting is approx 250 a week depending on where I am / what I'm doing. Every now and then I'll take the van in on days / weeks when needed so I don't envisage over 15k PA.

Booked in on the new AT Adventure sport

Got one of these booked for next month to ride for 7 days off road on a solo trip round South Africa. Normally use a Super Ten in SA and Namibia so will be interesting to see whats it like.

Test rode the AT Adventure Sport (DCT) this weekend.

Its a good bike! Was taken aback just how good the DCT was - needed to be in S3 though. Lovely autoblips down the box.

It would have to be manual with QS and Autoblipper if i was to get one.

Has anyone had their AT serviced yet? (not the 600 mile service). Mine will be due end of Sept and need to gauge what is a good price?

Would these handle a bit of light green laning or would they be absolutely sh*t?

I've do lanes on mine. You won't want to do it on the standard tyres, that's for damn sure, and they're obviously not as good as lighter, more agile bikes but meh, they can manage.

With the right tyres - yes.

I spent two days with BMW Off Road Skills, in Wales.

Off road, on a 1200 GS and it was superbly capable - with the right tyres.

Can absolutely handle it - with the right tyres. I run TA2s just now and have done beaches, MX tracks and gravel tracks as well as mud trails on the bike with no issue. These tyres are horrendous on grass however (as you might expect).

But in terms of the bike, it's a very capable off roader for its size so get stuck in!

I rode the Peak District section of the TET last month, also just on Trail Attack 2s with some pressure let out. It's a lot harder work than a smaller bike but it'll handle light green laning without fuss.

Got mine booked in on Friday. Rang both local John Banks and quote is £210. RIP off if you ask me and I bet they don’t even adjust or oil the chain.

Have a look for The Crumble on YouTube. He takes his AT into the rough stuff & just about gets away with it....he’s quite entertaining too.

First tank of fuel done - 300 miles.

Nice not having to stop at 210 on my old GS!

I do 400 miles a week commuting at the moment on my old fireblade, filling up every 125 miles - makes me want to buy one for this reason alone.

For those who have bought one... why have you gone for an AT over a GS? Do you think it's a better bike, better vfm or it simply that it's not a gs?

Mostly price here. I think it's actually fairer to say it competes more closely with the 850GS personally.

1200GS entry price is £12,400.
CRF1000L entry price is ~£9,000, with DCT.
850GS entry price ~£10,000

That said, DCT gearbox was a positive for me, perceptions of reliablity (which I think it's fair to say is fairly proven now), and I prefer the looks.

It's mostly an irrelevance to me, but I preferred the CRF1000L off road to the GS. Both were more than capable of what little I throw at them however.

Beaches in the UK? Anywhere in particular?
