Any Royal Enfield love about?
Discussion
So I know these aren't usual pistonheads material but I had a chance to ride a Royal Enfield last week. As someone who has ridden Sportsbikes for most of my life I really didn't know what to expect. I was actually pleasantly surprised - would make a great urban commuter, see my review below.

I also took one out from Allseasons cafe that night, as you say unpleasant it is not but I was surprised that it dint have much in the way of character, aside from the looks looking spot on.
The brakes on mine were pretty poor despite the snazzy looking caliper and disc, modest amount of grunt but it quickly passed to no real power to the thing, a 65MPH overtake would have to be planned ahead, you guessed at 50BHP but a quick looks shows it they have less than 30BHP..
Had a enjoyable enough 20mins or so on it but wasnt moved enough to think id like one now or ever or likely to recommend one to anyone..

I must say, I wouldn't rule out owning one at some point. How many miles were on your one? I had one with nearly 700 miles and the brakes were not too bad, perhaps your one needed a bit more running in? I agree, an overtake at 65 would need planning but that's not really what they are about.

In India they're top dog. Everyone is riding round on Chinese/Indian 125s so when you hear one of these chug chugging along, people stop to look/admire. The 350s start at 1 lakh, which is about £1,150. I was tempted to buy a couple, but to register them in the UK you have to change most of the fuelling/exhaust system and it wasn't cost effective. I had a sit on one and it feels like a good, modern bike in terms of quality. Not re-hashed 50's bikes like you might think.
I love my old British bikes, but I can definitely see the appeal as an alternative to something like my 250 BSA Starfire to blat round the countryside/pop into town. Especially if you don't like spannering.

Yep - I rode a 'modern' 500 Bullet on a 1000 mile jolly. Apart from the suicidal traffic, it was a right laugh. Seriously under-powered for UK roads though; 60mph is absolutely wringing its neck. Oh, & the clutch would overheat in traffic, meaning no clutch.....Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
