fancying a lighter weight lid for next year, anyone using one of these, and how do you find them if so?

I've had an X802R and an X802RR. Non carbon ones. It's an awesome lid. Coolmax liner is great for Trackdays, along with good vents for keeping you cool.

I have X802RR ultra carbon MotoGP and x802RR Carlos Checa blue WSB replica. I took MotoGP to race track, it was perfect. The blue is not ultra carbon so a little bit heavier but still much lighter than Shoei GT Air I have. I find these helmets really good. One negative, X802RR steams up even in warm weather when standing still with visor closed, Shoei doesn't.

I've an X802R Ultra Carbon Puro Sport - it's really really comfortable and fits me well.

It's rather noisy, though - earplugs are an absolute must for anything other than a gentle ride. But it's all day comfortable and really light.

I recently bought an X-Lite 'X-802RR Ultra Carbon Puro' to replace an Arai RX7.

So far it has been good; very comfortable and a better fit than the latest Arai (which is why I looked at the X-lite), it's very light, well vented and more 'windproof' internally due to the chinflap. Seems to be well made, it's also significantly lighter than my old Arai and costs much less than an Arai.

Downsides; the chinflap takes some getting used to and makes steaming up more likely when not moving but you can fold it in front of your mouth which helps, if a little uncomfortable as it touches your lips, or it can be completely removed.

Visor is set fairly high up so sportbike riding (looking up to see forwards) is comfortable but this makes the bottom edge of visor high, plus the chinbar is wide so I have to actually move my head to see both the speedo and bar-end mirrors on the Monster (with Arai I could glance down), plus it is quite a tight fit to get a pair of glasses inside - if that matters to you. As far as noise goes, it's fairly noisy at speed but not as noisy as an Arai so OK with me.

Overall though I like it and would recommend. thumbup

Thread hijack.

I'm also after an 802RR but wont be able try one on here in Portugal.

Could everyone who has one state their head measurement and the size they wear? Cheers.

I'm a medium in arai and shoei and also xlite. The xlite was really tight for the first day but soon bedded in to be perfect.

Cheers guys. I have an unintentionally large heed :-) so ideally I'd like to try one in xl before parting with cash, sounds like these are worth a try .

I've got a big head and take an XL, at least my last 3 Arai RX7s have been XL and have fit fine but the latest variant (RX7-V, IIRC) was simply too tight at the opening and I couldn't even get it on my head.

I'm told (by several suppliers) that Arai don't import the XXL version so I looked at other helmets and found the X-Lite in XL is a perfect fit, in fact due to it's 'plusher' interior it's a better, more comfortable fit than the Arai.

I think the problem is that XL size varies slightly between manufacturers; Arai list XL as 60 - 61 and X-lite as 61 - 62 pus there are variations due to manufacturing, shape etc. My head measures 62 and whilst previous Arais have fit me fine, I think they must have reviewed their sizing slightly?

I did try the XXL in the X-lite and whilst it didn't feel that much different to the XL, I suspect it may have 'given' too much after bedding in? So I would say X-Lite sizing is about spot-on as per the stated numerical measurement (as is probably Arai now, but not so previously).

i've never found an Arai that isnt a bit painful when tried on, always had Shoei in XL so i'm going to try one of these for size i think.

I have an X802R Carbon which I love. That advert is a cheap helmet as everywhere else seems to be c£100 more....................

Does it come with Pinlock in it at that ? Says ACU approved but does it indeed have the sticker ?

I could be tempted to buy one and just store it at £300.

Indeed, it is a good price. I paid £100 more from Sportsbikeshop - although they claim to price match (bit late for me though) so could be worth a look?

Found a Mesh Blue Ultra Carbon L in stock at HGB Ruislip at £270 including Pinlock and dark visor at £270. Bought it and will get it painted up at that price.

You can get the sticker either Direct from the ACU, or at your local racetrack no matter who’s racing there via scrutineering, for a £5, or just get one off eBay for £10

Parcel person just delivered my new X Lite 802RR Ultra Carbon helmet. This is their top of the range model above the 802R that I already have. HGB in Ruislip had this one on special complete with clear and dark visor and a pinlock insert for only £270 delivered. How could I say no ?

My current 802R Carbon X Lite

My latest 802RR Ultra Carbon X Lite

I actually like the paint scheme so I may not even have it painted. Just add "Tweety"

I've got an X-Lite X-661 Titantech. I absolutely love it. Superb for comfort, has built in shades, is light but very plush and comfortable. I'll get another X-Lite when I'm done with this one.

If you're in the market for a carbon lid I really rate my LS2 arrow carbon. A bit of a mouthful but these are available on SBS now and are really good value. Superlight, massive visor (you can barely see the helmet edges with it on the visibility is HUGE) and massive ventilation - i accidentally killed the pinlock when i was cleaning it and haven't bothered to replace it because the venting is so good it doesn't really mist up, even waiting at the lights.

Slight negatives are that the chin strap feels a bit cheap in terms of finish (no plush bits) and the fit is 'long/narrow' so probably not for everyone and noise is quite high given the venting. It fits me perfectly so that's the main thing.

Give one a go before you for one of the usual suspects. Honestly the visor is a revelation, I can't really ride in my other helmet. It feels like I'm peering through a postbox! https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/...
