If you can find another similar post '07 bike let me know please, sadiq will be taxing mine off the road later this year frown
8th April 2019 isn't it?
I'm needing to also change.
That's the current date, let's hope they don't bring it forward!

Shame as I quite like my '03 CBR600F - may end up getting an '08 version of the same tbh

Where do people look for bargain bikes other than ebay, gumtree, and autotrader?

I can't see much good between them tonight

Slightly over budget but I think my B1H ZX6R was a bargain at £2050. It's got 18,000 miles on it, some nice little extras such as Ohlins KA301 rear shock, Sprint steering damper, Remus exhaust, braided lines, single seat cowl etc.
I've chucked a double bubble screen, R&G exhaust hanger and tail tidy and some new Sintered brake pads on it and I think it'll make a cracking little bike to use for trackdays and any other time I don't want to use my Tuono whilst being cheap enough that it's not the end of the world if I drop it.
I've got a set of Supercorsas to go on once the spring time comes and will chuck some rearsets on but other than that it should be good to go.

Facebook Marketplace, FB Groups, Preloved, Shpock, MCN and bike forums, and if you want to mix with fraudsters, scumbags and dheads you can always try Swapz.

Ideally you should post pics

the first link is a CBR thou

Looks good for the money, they are quick heavy well built old buses

The second is a ZX6R

They are ok for a grand, a bit meh for me

What's the theoretical budget? £1500 like on the car side?

I nominate this GSX650F I've just picked up to fettle over the winter, cost just over a grand, 15k miles, on an '08 plate, £200 on powder coating and service bits should give a decent return come sale time.

What's it like?
From the reviews I've read they look like "small sports tourer" to me. Perfect mix of a fairing to hide behind unlike a naked, not physically massive like a full-on sports tourer/adventure bike, reliable with enough power to have fun and not all cramped up like a full on sports bike.

I can't say, I've not ridden it yet hehe its in bits in the garage having a big service and tidy up, I've been getting the wheels prepped for painting at work today, it'll be back together in a week or two but its unlikely I'll be riding till the weather improves, they get very positive reviews from most I have read, I'm not arsed about having 3 million horsepower, I just want a (cheap) practical middleweight bike for doing everything on smile

This would be good for a bit of cheap speed once you remove the stickers and screen, currently £900, won't make much more I bet.

lovely old barge.
Looks like the exhaust has been changed to a stainless system - just make sure the swing arm isn't rotten. They rust badly.

And the seller is just outside Aberdeen which means it's probably been serviced with pre-owned oil and he won't budge a penny on price...

Jazoli et al... Any chance of some genuine advice re: value?

I've got 1999 CBR 600F, it's had the engine replaced with a scrappy unit, recent chain and sprockets, rear caliper rebuild, clutch, regulator, battery, fuel pump, plugs, all; pads, front discs (Honda), recent carb balance, clearance check, front head bearings, wheel bearings, and has spare wheels (loads more I've forgotten as well). Front tyre is new (Pirelli Angel) rear is a slightly squared PR4. No problem sticking 12 months MOT on it. It's done circa 30K, only other mechanical point of note is the front suspension is a bit tired.

Bodywork is however, pretty poor. Everything damaged to lesser or greater extent, worst is mudguard held (securely) with cable ties, rear seat unit in primer grey, and front indicators replaced with cheap crap "flush" aftermarkets.

I'd planned to keep it but the shed is pretty full, but for £800 I'd part with it. Am I dreaming?

I've never sold a bike, no idea if there's a market. I'm not sure it's actually worth spending £300+ on Chinese bodywork.

Hi Prof, I reckon £800 is a stretch because of the looks of the thing, you could always rip the panels off and 'streetfighter' it and ask £2k hehe

It actually looks ok behind the matt black paint.

I don't think there is any point spending on bodywork, good ones can be had for £1200 so its not worth the effort, I reckon £700 is realistic at this time of year if you need to shift it, most will be put off by the paint job (or lack of one wink ) it would make a great cheap track bike or base for a street fighter (for some tasteless camo trouser wearing monkey)

Ebay ad at £895 or best offer and see where you end up would be my selling strategy smile

If you are really desperate I'm happy to lowball you right in the plums biggrin

Haha cheers mate that's appreciated. I'll need to have a think. I do keep going back and forwards with regards tracking it, I just wonder when I'll ever have the time.

Yeah that black finish was "Plastidip", allegedly it's brilliant, but I found it was absolutely rubbish. I followed the instructions, spent a fortune on heating the shed to apply it, and within a few months, it still just pealed right off revealing the crap bodywork underneath. For a smidge more effort I could have rattle can resprayed and bodged the panels (which I'm now considering).

The whole thing has been a moneypit actually, but it's my first bike and I'm an idiot, what can you do? biglaugh

I think i saw that Pan Euro riding over North Anderson Drive last week, looked pretty good from a quick glance whilst riding with a salty visor in the opposite direction XD

On another note, 2004 VFR800 for £1200, has been sitting for a while so will need news tyres, and from the sounds of the advert the battery is shagged. Other than that it looks pretty good

I disagree about there being a grand in it, I have seen plenty of that model VFR for under £2k, I don't think you'd lose money on it if you sorted it and sold it but there'll be very little profit in it.

You may get something for 2k-ish but with mega miles on it but I challenge you to post a link up to an ad with similar mileage(17k) for under 2k...that one had even had the expensive 16k service...No surprise to see its gone.

If it was nearer to me (and I had the money) I would gladly pay £1200 for it.

Worst case scenario for tyres, battery and a home service you are looking at £250.

Come summer that will sell for £2500 easily.

It needs new clocks, the tank is dented, the panels are the wrong shade in places and you think it'll be worth £2.5k? I certainly wouldn't pay that unless it was absolutely mint, which it isn't, I'd also buy it for £1200 but its too far away and I've still got the latest purchase to finish smile

Its sold now anyway, not surprising really.
