For me it's the Desmosedici. Too stiff for the road, too uncompromising, too hot, not that fast nowadays either, but my God I'd love one!!
On my potential acquisitions list, all of the above applies I'm sure, but it's also one of those unusual looking bikes including front wheel bigger than the back, a challenge to be able to ride it on the road which always appeals to me, it doesn't need to be 100%, but undoubtedly one of life's experiences riding one. Are you saying it would be as hard to ride as a temperamental, premenstrual Italian woman.Biker's Nemesis said:

It's quirky, ridiculously rare, and like the Desmo too hard for the road, but as with most things built that way, when in a zone they can be just awesome. This thing is ace. One of the original homologation bikes, I can't call it my grail bike but I can call it mine, for now.

Holy grail bike would be the 1989 Ducati 851. Any 851 or 888 would be great but the '89 looked so good back then with those white wheels and frame, single seat rear end. There's something about the black Marzocchi forks and the old style black brembo calipers. Later models are probably smarter buys but that '89 model has that something.
When I was 16, I had a blue Honda SS50 with a mighty 1.5hp and a op end of 40mph and when I parked it once, outside Horsmans, in Liverpool, a red Gold Wing parked next to my little moped and I literally gawped at it.
When I finally passed my bike test on a blue CB250RS, I saw a fully-loaded red GL1000, by which I mean a perspex screen, panniers, top box and rack and the best King and Queen seat I've ever sat on and I bought it there and then. Can't link thanks to Photophucket so here is an ad for one:
I used it as my only transport for 2 years - incredibly smooth and sounded like a missile on full chat.

IF I had the money these two would be in my garage
"Problem" is I am not convinced or RSV reliability and Speed is an expensive (the way I specced it, and it needs exhausts replaced) naked while I am still in love with sportsbikes.... AND, finally, there is this, which will be my next bike IF I buy one:

My Holy Grail was the ZXR750R, became a reality last year, I’ve been over the moon with it, I love it. They say never ride your heroes but this has been wonderful.
And the first bike I fell in love with was the Katana 750 pop up...also bought last year
3 left to complete the collection would be a Bimota SB2, an MV F4 Tamburini (or 750 F4 Senna) and an Aprilia RS250.
