This is even worse than just having your bike go missing.

They steel the bike, put it up for blackmail on Facebook. When word gets back to the owner, and he refuses to pay a ransom for it's return, they film themselves setting fire to it.

The one in the post is a beautiful old Triumph.

The page has 3 photos one showing the bike on fire, more importantly it shows the names and faces of the criminals maybe deserving the same fate.

Makes your blood boil. Little thieving scum.

Wouldn't it be easier to just agree to pay the ransom and then ambush the lot? Would the police not react to such stuff before they torch the bike etc?

Very sad state of affairs with people suggesting not to ever let your bike seen, don't wash it on your drive etc.

yeah this - bikers generally aren't the run of the mill scared type. 20 bikers should do it, mob handed.

Happy to volunteer

I'm not sure social media makes any difference. If there was no social media some scrote could nick your bike then later on put a note thru your door.
Social media may even help these scrotes get their comeuppence.

They have been using social media to brag about all their thefts to their friends, every post, follower, comment will make them bolder. Posting it online should make it easier to catch them but it also shows they think they're untouchable.

I don't know anything about them beyond what I have read on the associated articles on the Bristol Post site. The ransom may be new but the stealing and bragging on social media was done by a gang in Aberdeen a couple of years ago and Glasgow before that.
They were mainly under 18, showed no remorse and enjoyed the attention. Time stamped pictures of the cars they had just stolen and the police talked about getting the facebook pages taken down.

This is the trouble when our police force is cut back so far. There is zero interest is catching thieves and general scum/troublemakers.

Sad state of affairs, had 2 of my bikes stolen and would like to have a little time alone with those responsible.

No physical injury seems to mean no action these days, from the Police.

It is understandable, given the current economic climate, but it does make your blood boil!

There was a 70 page document that was being distributed about these Bristol scum, but I believe its been removed after a meeting with Bristol Police yesterday, where it became apparent that they're actually doing something, and that possibly incorrect information circulating could hinder their investigations.

Inaction by the police following stuff like this on social media really pisses me off. Call someone a name they don’t like and they run to the police who deal with online trolling like it’s the Brinks Mat robbery. Hand them info like this for an easy arrest and they simply ignore it.

A good friend has had his two off road KTMs stolen from his garage recently. He has CCTV footage of the scum with faces in full view and the registration number of the van and car involved. Two weeks later the police still haven’t been in touch despite numerous chases from him. Apparently, he’s in a queue and will be dealt with at some (undetermined) point in the future. Unless it involves physical threat then GMP have zero interest in taking action.

I don’t believe their, or any force’s, funding has been cut to that extent.

The advent of automated enforcement has brought about a culture of cowardice & laziness.

If they can't deal with it by fine/fixed penalty then they can't be arsed...

Agree. The problem I find you sometimes get with any public body when funding is cut, is that they start using it as an excuse to be inefficient and lazy. It suddenly becomes to go to excuse for failing standards.

The sustained pressure of physical violence convictions regardless of circumstances as well, whilst understandable, does also mean vigilantism is kept in check.

So the little fkers are free to do whatever they want.

I know it's unbeleivable how badly the Police have been cut. What's more unbeleiveable is people keep voting for it!

Massively reducing Police budgets while also underfunding the social and mental health services. Our PM really is a genius.

We’re actually making the opposite point to the one you’ve made. None of us believe the police have been cut to the extent that they can’t investigate anything other than physical violence.

However, just on the political side of things. Our Prime Minister is not a President, she doesn’t have the power to make universal declarations of taxation and spending policy. Most people would rather not pay a huge amount of tax and to repay the national debt (or at least stop it growing so quickly), as well as fund today means either huge tax increases, or accept that tax revenues have to go on debt and reduce our daily spend. It’s not rocket science to work that out.

There is the other option of just borrowing more and more and more until you’re completely bankrupt though. Better still, just give the young ones everything for free and tax the hell out of the older lot. The young ones love it, until they realise that they’re the older lot in the making.

Wooosh!

Also, she was Home Sec previous to PM and presided over significant cuts to the Police.

As someone who has recently had their bike nicked I'll admit that I was dissappointed in how the Police dealt with it. I can also categorically state I wouldn't be a PC for twice the money they're on.

Not sure if the whoosh is for me or you.

She may have presided over it, but when you’ve only got £n to spend, you can’t spend £n+1. Until thenpolice start to become more efficient and focus on crimes that matter then their apparent lack of funding will not gain much public sympathy.
