What differences are there between the customer Yam of Tech3 and the factory model this year? Large difference in pace cant be all down to the rider.

New Yam will have all the fairings new chassis etc. Tech 3 should be the magical 2015 chassis which worked. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Tech3 running 2016 frame and 2017 engines. Rossi and Vinales running a modified version of 2016 frame with 2018 engine. The issue seems to be that the works team have not managed to refine the software yet so they are either having too much wheelspin and accelerate tyre wear on soft tyres or slower lap times on medium tyres. Or they alter it and get too much grip and it understeer or wheelies etc .

VR believes that they still do not have enough expertise on the Marelli whereas Ducati and Honda have better electronic strategies.

Got a few mate who went up, apparently huge crowds, and a great success., it appears most of the Taia bike clubs organised trips. There was no one at Sepang the other week, Hopeful a good pointer to the GP being a success. Amazing how the Thai circuit is drawing huge crowds for everything in total contract to Sepang, I'm told they get 30,000 people to what is basically club racing

Great to hear Thai round should be well supported... but don't be too hasty on writing off Sepang. They might not turn out on mass for a test day but 2017 race day attendance figures were 88,832. 150,563 over the weekend... that makes it the highest attendance outside of Europe for a Motogp round in 2017.

The contrast would be F1 at Sepang in 2017... a laughable 44,611 on race day in comparison to MotoGP!!!

Following on from this test and his solid improvements, Hafizh Syahrin has been confirmed as the full 2018 season replacement for Jonas Folger at Tech 3.

And Francesco Bagnaia has a 2 year factory Ducati contract to join Pramac, which means he will be replacing Petrucci for 2019 at Pramac.

Charger, I'm not writing off the crowd at Sepang, I race at Sepang and was at the last Moto GP and the test a few weeks ago. My comment was on the Sepang management who haven't got a clue how to attract a crowd, there was almost no one at the Sepang test no adverting/publicity. While I know a few people who rode from Krabbie to the Thai testing, 4 days on the road and they tell me there were significant numbers of people there. There are a lot of low income bikers in Malaysia who would have gone to the test if it was advertised properly but Sepang management do nothing. Its the same with club racing, typically at Sepang we get around 50 spectators to club racing, my mates tell me 15,000 attend in Thailand.
A few years back when the F1 was moved to be back to back with the Singapore race, it was discussed and of us told the management that a two week gap would not be attractive to Europeans and Aussis, as that meant taking more than 3 weeks off work, we advised a one week gap. Totally ignored reality and the number of Europeans and Aussis attending fell significantly, at the same time Singaporeans didn't come because they had blowen their budget 2 weeks earlier, I'm convinced that the timing and two week gap was instrumental in the demise of the Sepang race, I could go on and list any number of examples of bad management at Sepang.

No worries Pal... Was just defending the enthusiasm for local/Malaysian interest in bike racing, which you obviously don't need pointing out... I've spent sometime in KL and been to Sepang a couple of times but obviously have no real local insight into any of the issues and management downfalls of the circuit, but we all see it all over the place, bad management and little foresight and effort regarding venues is frustrating... I've seen similar things here at UK circuits over the years, there was a big dry spell of getting people to the circuits for small events, club racing etc. I've raced in the past where I swear there were more sheep watching the race than people but there have been some efforts put into improving circuits, promoting and marketing smaller events and have witnessed larger crowds turning up for club events... long may it continue...

Maybe huge success in Thailand may make Sepang management wake up?
