Been having on ongoing problem with my Monaro VXR (LS2) randomly going into limp home mode for a while now, had it plugged into diagnostics which pointed the finger at the throttle position sensor. Would this mean changing the whole throttle body or can you just change the sensor? Any advice would be gladly accepted. Cheers. smile

Fairly common problem for the DBW to give issue, think it's moisture or something gets in and causes it ?

If you can suffer a week or two wait, you can get them for sensible money via ebay in the US, usually around £130 or so

I would almost put money on it being the throttle body and not the throttle position sensor.

Had the same problem with mine 5 years ago.

Make sure you get the right one. The early model. I think it ends ..090 or something part number wise. The newer one works the opposite direction and I think has different gearing. It will throw a fault if you use it even though the plug is the same..

Obviously you'll need to ensure part matches your own...prices seem to have increased a bit since I last bought a couple last year.

but

You'll find some sellers selling new take off units too...but also beware, there are places selling aftermarket pieces and Chinese versions.

Delco/GM will have a proper part number and one of those little square barcode things on it

I came across the old thread for that earlier on Pete, so yours was randomly going into limp home without warning? Has it been okay since replacing the throttle body? Looks a fairly simple fix bearing in mind i'm a mechanical technician by trade. smile

Do you use the car a lot? I don’t and mine threw several fits over a period of months. Cleaned the plug that goes into the throttle body and use it more often and it seems ok now.

Yeah, it would go into limp mode randomly. No other symptoms.
I ignored it the first 2 or 3 times it happened and then one morning it wouldn’t even attempt to start. Completely dead.

A few days later I eventually managed to get it fired up but it went straight to limp mode. I drove it to my mechanic who replaced the throttle body and it has been fine ever since.

Gold blade one = Fail.

You want the silver one.

As said...he'd need to check exactly what he has. But checking and cleaning contacts etc would be a sensible and free thing to try.

Price difference between the two does seem a bit silly.

Thanks for link, but on my Monaro VXR 2005 LS2 the throttle body is the larger diameter, over 100mm.

Just got a UK price for LS2 throttle body from two different sources - and they are £600. The two places are Partsworld (from their website), and LS Performance Parts who i messaged yesterday.

Mine came from Monkfish and cost about £300 if I remember correctly.
I’m pretty sure the price increased to about £500 more recently though.

£600 seems ridiculously expensive but it might be worthwhile for the peace of mind that it’ll work (or your money back).

Not if you measure it properly. OD is 102mm, ID is.... 90mm smile

I can assure you NO factory TB is 100mm nevermind larger.

You do not measure where the pipe goes on, it is the blade diameter.

That's mental money...there are sellers on egay around $350 and if you get it with teh global shipping program, postage will be sensible too.

But check it really is needed first at that price...ie clean contacts etc.

And can the latter gold blade not be swapped for the earlier silver ?
