We buy quite a few CDs. Over the last few years mostly via Amazon. This includes a fair number which are shipped from USA.

Recently I joined Discogs. And the first purchase (Trembling Bells - 'Carbeth') was from a guy in the US who couldn't find any way to send it for less than $14. The CD was $7 so the postage became a deal breaker.

How can these Amazon sellers ship CDs for £1.26 and £1.40 ; and how is anyone else getting CDs from USA at better than $14 postage per item?

Any help appreciated.

Volume, presumably. Or "loss leader" principle. Same way that I can buy some bolts from eBay (in the UK), pay 99p posted, and they come in a new Jiffy bag with £1.17 post on it. Amazon hope you'll buy loads more and they'll eventually make a profit overall.

Rarewaves USA - I'd been after the Tom Petty Live Anthology set for ages - 4 album vinyl set - but given up after cheapest I could find was over 400 quid. You can add a grand to that from some!
So, a 4 CD set it was to be.
Locally I could get it ordered for £43. Sod that.
Found a few selling at just under 20 quid. Getting better!

Then found Rarewaves at just £12.62 'FREE' p/p from the States on ebay. (they list on Amazon too, but slightly dearer).
Worth the risk? Of course.

Shrink wrapped US import via their London base. Took 8 days. Brilliant!

Price varies a few pence dependent on rate exchange at time.
Now £12.72 previous one sold was £12.50.

They seem to list 2 at a time. When they sell, another 2 will pop up.

Back in the 90's my sunday treat was to go into Tower on Picadilly Circus and treat myself to 4 or 5 cd's most weekends, sometimes paying £20 for a US import for a cd I already had on vinyl, Aretha's 1980 album 'Aretha' Bobby Caldwell's 'Cat In A Hat' on a Jap import for similar money spring to mind, fast forward a few years and I could of had most of them for £5 or £6 off the internet.
