Trailer for it is out https://youtu.be/u9Mv98Gr5pY

Tom Hardy is Eddie Brock/Venom. Apparently Spiderman isn't in it, but Tom Holland as Peter Parker may show up.

It could be good, or it could be extremely dissapointing. Hardy is an immence actor, but Sony never really pulled anything of value for years, not to mention the fact that no thing Marvel worked outside of Feige's MCU. I'll save further reservations 'till the actual cinematic experience.

Yeah, this is going to be terrible. The person who has written the screenplay for Venom, also wrote the screenplay for that absolute classic...50 Shades of Grey...

It needs to be an 18 also, when has Venom been a 'hero'?

Well the trailer has suckered me in, despite HATING comic book films. I suspect I'll be disappointed again.

I though Venom looked the way it does because it originally bonded with Spiderman and as such mimicked the look of his suit.

How will they explain the similarity in this continuity if Spiderman isnt the first host?

Have you seen what they can get away with in 15s now?! If Red Sparrow is a 15 there is little in any mainstream comic adaptation that is going to trouble an 18 certificate these days.

True, i forgot about the neck slicing and decapitation in the recent Agents of Shield series as well. I just hope they dont turn it into something st and aimed at teens

100% a hype train film, Its been shown you can make a good Marvel film outside of the MCU (Deadpool for example).

But for Sony to think they can somehow shoehorn a solo outing for a character like Venom is crazy, As others have said the character is directly linked to Spiderman.

So i suspect a lot of the film is going to be wasted on a random origin story that know one wants with lots of shaky hand fighting scenes in the dark.

Hardy's accent in that is laughable.

Doesn't look awful, doesn't look great, and in this gut of super-hero films, it'll need to be amazing to pass muster. Trouble is we all know SOny are desperate for a franchise, and this whiffs a tad of desperation. Hardy does one note, it's good though.

Superhero films, or all comic book films?

Yarp, I had the original comic. Spider-Man's suit was destroyed after many fights away from home and Reed Richards found a machine to create cloth/suits, so he made one for Spider-Man, it was black and could regenerate itself, and create it's own webbing. Then some time later on some writer decided to make it sentient and actually make it a creature instead of a superdoopah set of duds. It was pretty clever writing back then.

Fox, which now means it's own by, der-der-deeeeeeer, Disney! Who own the MCU. I'm rather happy for the FF to be left alone.

Watched this last night. Teenage son loved it, I thought it was dirge and a lot of it didn't make any sense.

Best bit was the last scene before the credits.

Unsurprisingly, it is getting a kicking from reviewers.

When will Sony learn?

Yup pretty awful. I've never seen Michelle Williams so shockingly wasted in a film. Considering the subject matter and the potential for a bit of fun with it was also incredibly light on laughs. For a slam dunk it returned to the old superhero ways of having a terrible CGI mush of an end battle. Worst film I've seen this year, and I went to see Downsizing...and The Predator.

I had hopes it might be a bit violent when I saw the 15 rating, but it's really not, it must be barely a brief few cuts away from a 12A so I'm amazed they didn't try for one.

Also, 16 minutes of credits! Thankfully, the lengthy second mid-credits scene was worth staying for and it had absolutely nothing to do with Venom!

I saw it this afternoon, and enjoyed it for what it was.

It has a slightly dated feel of a superhero film made in the made to late 00's however i dont think it deserves the kicking its getting from the critics on rotten tomatoes.

A few plot holes but the folk i watched it with laughed along (was quiet but it was a wet thursday lunchtime showing in Inverness!)

The first mid credits scene was a nice touch and i thought the core of the Brock venom back and forth worked well.

Hopefully it gets enough for another go and they go full R rating, not the PG-13. When i saw 15 i thought the UK got a harder cut, but it seems the PG-13 range is wide and its just into our 15 rating, as deadpool would be at the other end.

They should have gone the deadpool level of grit for Venom i feel, but Sony are desperate for wide range so aim for the larger audience demographic sadly.
