Would be a good excuse to buy a new one! Or borrow one of yours ? smile

You marshalling during race week? Would be great to catch up at some point.
Ditto would be good to meet up. I’m here until the Sunday after senior race day.

Hopefully the subject of rip-off ferry prices will now be addressed, or does Tynwald just see this as a nice earner?
No idea, my guess would be the latter though
The tt gives a much needed boost to keep them profitable, same for the rest of the island. They can't afford not to make good money from the TT.

I think the main driver for the I.O.M govt buying the Racket is that the island's only ferry service isn't in the hands of random venture capital companies & passed around like a spliff at a Bob Marley gig. Though as 1 local dignitary pointed out our bunch of Royston Vasey numpties can't run a coffee shop without running a loss so this should be interesting..

The weather forecast looks good which is what we want for the competitors, fans, campers & the whole feeling of the TT however as I lean out of my window all I can hear is birdsong, not a single bike (I live by the Hairpin) as yet again someone has binned it on the Mountain. 2nd crash today & this is how it goes: sun's out, carnage. I love the festival but the human toll gets a bit wearing, I know the Mountain in particular is nirvana for bikers but some of the riding is just grim!

Anyhoo, enough negativity, I look forward to CH108 keeping me in beer for a fortnight thumbup

Have a great time on Fraggle Rock y'all, enjoy this mad little island & ride safely. Go easy on the bike too..

I agree and with so many speed restrictions in place now, it’s only a matter of time before they put one on the mountain. Some poor sod was killed yesterday in collision with a car and van near the Creg and they’ve closed the road at Kirk Michael to repair some “road furniture” after someone else ran out of talent. Mountain closed again for the second time today and it’s not even midday!

I wheeled my bike out of the garage this morning, put all my gear on, flicked the starter and nothing. Battery has died whilst I’ve been away and won’t hold a charge. Never mind the sun is shining and it still feels great being here.

If you are here, please ride safely and go home in one piece.

From those who know/live on the island, what's the best time to try and get up and over the mountain? Not that you would ever tell a non-local, I guess...! Early morning? Late evening? Middle of the night?

When we rode over a couple of years ago it was almost constantly shut when the racing wasn't on, and during the brief moments that it would open again you would get some proper scary riding and driving from certain individuals, particularly when they had all been waiting in Ramsey for a couple of hours for plod to reopen the road.

Camping next to Nobles hospital was particularly sobering given that the medical helicopters barely stopped going in and out even when there was no racing on.

Best time to go over the Mountain? Early. Very early! I was out with the dog at half 6 & there was a steady stream of bikes heading out then & obviously there are less cars too though many locals don't use the road as a) even for a seasoned motorist it can be scary (though it didn't stop my Mum in her 20 year old K11 Micra!) & b) as you say It's usually shut anyway.

Oddly the next few days would be a great time to go over at night, hardly any traffic & a full moon. Trust me, despite driving the Mountain over 2000 times in 17 years I still find it utterly magical on a clear night with the light of the moon. Plus IIRC there's at least 1 petrol station open 24 hours over TT..

Please bear in mind the coast road to Ramsey now has a 50 limit outside (relatively) built-up areas & the police area doing speed checks regularly. Oh, you have 1 less mobile chicane this year, I still can't drive after my knee op.

I’d try to get up there early morning, before rush hour and visiting numbskulls are up and about.

I happen to have most of next week off work (w/c 4th) and noticed that I could get flights over for the day - arriving around 9.30am and departing around 6.30pm.

Would flying over for the day (probably Monday) be a bad idea?

I haven’t been in about 30 years, since my last trip over with my dad as a youngster.

It’s never a bad idea to come here, especially when the sun’s out but you need to consider roads will be closed so travelling from the south to the circuit will take longer than usual. I’d try to stay over for the night to make the most of it.

Thanks - issues getting to somewhere to spectate was exactly what I was meaning.

Will have a look at options.

Would there be issues travelling from the airport to (for example) quarter bridge? I've not actually attempted to move around when the roads were shut.

If you turn right at the lights before Quarterbridge you can go around the back past the leisure centre and along the seafront to get up to the Grandstand/St Ninian’s. It just takes longer to get about.

Viewing points coming from the south of the island are limited but being a Monday you have the advantage that the roads have to be open between 5 and 6 should there be a delay so you can get back to the airport.

The Quarterbridge is ok & it is a pub but viewing is limited & often crowded; you could try the bottom of Bray (do this at least once in your life, saw DJ thru there in '02). Personally I'd head to St. Ninians & watch from the playing field - you can have my space now I've moved to Ramsey biglaugh

Just a 5 minute walk from the grandstand & all the food, drink & merchandise plus you may see riders going to & fro though you have to pay handsomely nowadays to watch here - better watch for free by the school or by the rugby pitch on Glencrutchery road.

Hope you make it over!

Wormus auto sparks on South quay is your best bet for a battery that's where I get mine, Chris send me a pm if you want to view from ours, I went down Bray Hill at 3pm yesterday and there was already about 20 people waiting for the roads to close at 6pm, practice was held up due to some idiot on the track at the Crosby leap thankfully he was arrested and jailed I think they will make an example of him as the last guy who did it at union mills was in court the next day and received a jail sentence.

No issue getting from airport to quarter bridge when roads are closed. And I'd say that 100% it is worth coming for a day trip. You can squeeze a lot in to those 9hrs over here

Side note I like what bushys has done in villa gardens, competition has make them sort their act out. The same old same old in the bottle neck was getting very tired. Speaking of which I've to been in the hooded ram tent yet , was tempted to see scouting for girls it's only £27

Go easy on the beer the night before and get up at 4.30/5. It's daylight, it's empty, and you can have a good couple of runs with only one or two other bikes for company, that's always my plan and seems to work.
