I got a little carried away on an overtaking lane this Saturday, and got pulled over by the police who were sitting (rather visibly - embarrassingly enough) in a lay-by to my left which became visible once i got past the lorry i'd went past.

No arguments about being caught, my fault, the police were perfectly reasonable and rather personable, however they did explain that due to the speed i was doing (86mph) that i'd be receiving a summons to visit the Procurator Fiscal.

What am i likely to receive, i have currently got no points, however i was riding my rather Brightly colored motorbike at the time.

Should i look for legal representation for my day in court?

I thought it was a FPN for less than 30 over the limit. Has it recently been changed?

I can't help you with court, other than you should look sad and apologetic. Don't tell them they are a bunch of s and that they should be catching real criminals.

I think he'd mentioned it would have been an FPN under 84

I'm assuming worst case is probably 6 points and a means tested fine, If i get that i'll probably get rid of the bike for a few years, with 3 i'll just keep it and be a tad slower.

you won't be off to see the PF (roughly the scottish equivalent of the CPS doon south) you'll be up before the magistrates

suspect you're looking at 3-6 points and a fine - court seems to kick in at 26mph over the limit in a 40 and above

Not sure there would be much to gain by employing the services of a lawyer as that would cost a fair whack for what sounds like a straight forward speeding offence. However you could call a couple and see what they say at no cost initially.

I would wait to see what the summons say when it arrives

Strange attitude. Why do you have the bike if it is so easy to give up on it?

Fair enough, the officer specifically mentioned the PF (I'm in Aberdeenshire) however it might be that the summons is issued by the office of the PF and dealt with on the day by somebody else. As it's my first time i'm not sure what to expect.

Again, I wouldn't be worrying yet.
I was done twice in a 60 limit, once for 99 and the other at 86, both resulted in 3 points and a small fine.

I did however accumulate a few too many, oops.

ok - yes there will be a representative of the PF in court to present the charge against you - unless you're contesting the charge they will just read this out and the mags will dole out the pain

never the less - wait for the summons and take it from there (you may decide to post something pertinent in SP&L when it comes through)

good luck

Was it cameras or police pull you over?

Got caught by a camera back in October last year - 97mph on a 70mph dual carriage way.

5 Points and £520 fine.

Does anyone genuinely believe that is a proportional punishment for the offence ?

Personally I think, accepting that we are going to have punishments for exceeding limits, that an FPN of 2 points with a fine of £100 would be more appropriate for that.

Police cars, one marked and one unmarked.
