There are other offences in there but the speed is the bit that makes it to the headline.

Appropriate punishment?

Well he can hardly be surprised to be sentenced, the length is questionable though. Still 189mph, think of the children!

"Raided his house"? Does seem excessive since it was a victimless crime..

Should be jailed for being dumb enough to film and archive it all. I don't ride with a camera and I avoid riding with people using cameras, for this and other reasons. Why would you?

So that's 21 month pokey for 5 counts of dangerous driving? No jail time for speeding.

He's done a little more than just speeding. They raided his house because he had plates from a stolen bike in the boot of his car. 5 counts of dangerous driving plus assisting handling stolen property.

Sounds like a right saint to me! Next time you have a bike or car stolen just remember you aren't a victim.

Pretty sure he's a convicted bike thief...

If it was just for doing "nearly 190mph" (189 on the speedo, probably a fair bit less in reality, but fast all the same), then seems excessive. But convicted bike thief? fk him, not long enough...

F*ck him. If you're going to be a dick then go ahead but:

a) make sure nobody sees you doing it and;
b) don't f*cking keep digital records of it to be used against you.

I could be wrong, but I believe anything over 100 mph is classified as 'dangerous driving' rather than speeding. It carries a higher range of punishment.

For a successful DD conviction you need multiple factors e.g. excessive speed, crossing white line, on the phone, eating a banana etc

Usually up to 36mph over any posted limit you still may not go to court (if you are lucky) so over 100 mph in a 70mph is not automatically a DD. Plus 36mph on any posted limit is eligible for a ban and you go to court to plead otherwise (no FPN offer)

I Have previously lost my licence for DD and got off with 98mph in a 60mph before smile

This guy committed DD 5 times (likely more, thats just the easy to prove ones) so got sentenced accordingly. For a one off DD you may get away with conditional discharge, community service, fine, ban etc (it carries multiple punishments not just points) but 5 of them is going to be hard to prove that you a good rider usually and its a "one off officer" ....especially when you provide your own video evidence LOL

Frustrating that the BBC seems incapable of reporting this properly. Quite why he got off so lightly is incomprehensible given the extent of his offending.

That paints a slightly different story from the original post so I'm not surpised by the police's response.

They aren't much worse than the others, most sites barely mention theft. The quote from the police only mentions the dangerous riding, its no wonder people think the police ignore bike theft.
