Simple question really - I'm a bit of a track noob, so never considered this before, but is it wise or unwise to book a track day and then, at the same circuit, a track evening? I'm considering 6th August at Snett for both sessions - mainly as a mate can only make the evening session, but I don't think just 2.5 hours will be enough for me.

Is this a daft idea?

I think you will be rather tired after a day on track especially as you say you are new to it. My concern is that you could end up being a bit of a liability for the evening session as the tiredness really kicks in.

Yeah, that's my concern, though on the first couple of days I've done, I've actually found myself going much better at 4pm as I 'get into the groove'.
I tend to take longer breaks than most people, but yes, it's a long day. Luckily Snett is only an hour from home.

on track days I generally let people fly out in the morning and then when they come in I go out. Take it easy in the day and mid afternoon most go home so in the last few hours of the day get some of the best lapping and clear lapping possible. At Anglesey the other month me and my mate had it to ourselves for a hour and a half was brilliant.

You'll end up taking too much out of the car. Why not do the day and then hang on to support your friend from the pits?

Yeah - that's true. I'd probably end up doing less sessions in the daytime. Could hang about for a while and then clear off a bit later on, but before the evening session...

Basically I've been bitten by the bug and I just want to be on track the whole f'ing time...

Only a small issue but you may find the evening has a lower noise limit and have to retest for the evening and that the breifing etc for the evening will overlap your day track time.

For myself, a day is enough, but a lot depends on how much time you spend out, how fit / rested you are and what your car is (i.e. how hard work it is). If you don't need to extract every last minute out of the day, could be worth doing the afternoon and evening. You'll have to pay for all day obvs, but doesn't mean you have to drive it..

Thanks chaps...

Yes, the noise limit at Snett drops to 102 for evenings - I got on at Bedford on a 101 day without issues (I'm 95.5 static, roughly), so should be OK. The briefing would indeed be during the last of my track time for the afternoon and I wonder if I'd be better off just driving to the flag as it were, and then sticking about for a bit to see my mate.

The car's a VX220 - on a hot day it's a fairly warm place to be in jeans and sleeves so I might welcome the chance to cool off and just watch for a bit.

Agreed you'll be pretty tired even if the car is romping on fine.

That said, I would appreciate an option from TDO's to do an afternoon + evening. Miss the inevitable track rush in a morning!

Three of us are planning on doing a full day at Croft in September, then going to Teesside Autodrome for the track evening. Of course that depends how tired we are and if the cars are still running ok, you can just turn up for Teesside.

Evening, have found MSV helpful with allowing me to do an afternoon session at half price, and then do an evening trackday(at the same track of course).Just ring and talk to them, especially if its not full daytime, afternoons are quieter, good for practice for hot sessions in the evening. Will be doing this again at Cadwell in early September, but doing Blyton the day before.
