I usually just use my headphone with remote control when riding, but have been giving a thought to getting a bluetooth headset for music on the long journeys and the voice directions on sat nav.

I would also like the option of getting a second set later on for a pillion or to lend to another rider and the option of pairing with another headset of a different brand would also be handy. Lastly as I ride with two helmets, a set where I can easily detach the unit (even if I have to get a second set of speakers / mic) would be great. I usually ride with ear plugs.

Any recommendations or experiences? A guy at work has the base model Interphone and says that he likes it a lot. However he got it a a very knocked down price as he marshalls at events and ride outs.

Bonus points if I can get it delivered this week...

I split a duo pack of the Scala Packtalk a few years ago with a friend, and although a bit pricey, it really is excellent. Can connect to different branded Bluetooth headsets no problem, and works a treat with the satnav and Phone. Even had a radio which is great on the commute.

Fitting wise, you get both a stick on adapter and a clip-on one, so can go for semi-permanent or easily removable options.

Battery life is impressive, easily get a days riding out of one and charges from a typical phone charger.

One of the better accessories I have bought for my bike.

I have a Sena 10s which does everything you mention. No complaints although I've nothing to compare it to.
Seems to have a very long battery life and I can hear it through my ear plugs.

Got mine here: https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/...

Scala Packtalk convert right here.

I had always been adamant that I would never have any form of headset fitted. However after having a look and mess around with the Packtalk system a pal of mine purchased I went home that night and bought the Packtalk Duo for myself and missus.

They may be expensive, but they are worth it in my opinion, it's made ride outs with my missus so much more enjoyable, whether she is pillion or on her own bike. And we find ourselves chatting so much more than normal while we are out too.

The DMC mesh integration thingy is great when you are connected to a larger group.

Spotify works great with them, they have a radio built in which is handy and phone calls can be made very clearly for both parties at 70mph+ (Shoei NXR helmet)

Battery life is around 6 to 8 hours iirc?

Fitting is really simple for both full face and open face helmets.

The only negative I have on them is the speakers could be a bit better quality soundwise. Other than that they are brilliant.

I did the same thing and split a Duo pack. I agree its excellent. I ride a 2015 R1 with a decat Akra on it, it's very loud but I took a phone call from a friend the other day and he said he could hear me perfectly and didn't realise I was on a bike.

If you're happy with cheap and cheerful, I've had a set of these (or similar looking ones) for the past 3 years with no issues:

They work fine, and for the money do everything I want. Quality is fine for chatting or music, but maybe I'm not that picky.

I’ve a SENA system that’s specific to my Shoei Neotec 2 that is really good. I assume a generic SENA system will be as good and give the flexibility to swap for lid to lid.

I also use Interide kit for training. Easy to swap from customer to customer and does everything you’ve listed I think.

Cool, so I'm leaning towards either the Sena or Scala as I do want something good quality. No one using Interphone?

Anyone know if the Scala and Sena are waterproof? I've seen a few different opinions online. Strikes me as silly if they are not.

Turns out you can't get extra fitting hardware for the Sena and it's not waterproof only weatherproof...

So it may be the Interphone sport as the Scala is a fair bit more expensive. Just need to find someone to split it with..

I've used Interphone F4s for about 5 years now. The device in itself is good, simple to use, lasts a long time on battery and is totally waterproof.

The downside is the flimsy fitting kits (speakers, mic) for the helmet. They last about a year, tops, due to the speakers stopping working and just being a bit sh*t. Replacement kits are about £30 but its still annoying.

The Scala is definitely waterproof, I don't think I have taken mine off my helmet in the last 2 years and I have been through some really wet rides biglaugh

They are expensive, but mine does seem to be going the distance. They have released a new model which integrates better with Siri/android equivalent which was tempting me to upgrade, but as the one I have is working it isn't enough of an upgrade to bother yet. Will wait until this ones dies first.

I used to have a K6 GSXR with a decatted Akra on it, and when I did take calls on it people would be surprised I was on a bike. The call quality was really good. I think only my car mechanic sussed it, probably because I was doing some slightly spirited riding and he was wondering what was revving so high ears

Second this. I just bought these a few weeks ago. Buyee rebranded all over the internet but for £55 including delivery. I bought them to help train my son on his motorcycle. He loves them. Listens to music/answers the phone, and direct connection for training.

The battery seems to last forever. Very clear/loud and the range is quite impressive, a few times he has disappeared out of sight into the distance and they still have the range for me to tell him to slow up till I can see him again.

Honestly I don't see what spending two to three times that price and more on a system achieves? It can't be sound quality cos ..... well.......you're on a motorcycle.

Do these all work on the assumption that you're not using earplugs?

Scala is waterproof. I've ridden a few times in torrential rain for a few hours with zero issues.

I've had an Interphone but got frustrated with it as it wasn't very loud. I sold that and got a Sena 20S which I'm very happy with.
You can use an app to set the radio stations you want and it's been used for all weather commuting with no issues.
The only downside is remembering which buttons do what as I mainly use it for music and phone calls. Pricey but very good. You will need to fit a boom Mic in the helmet but that was a non-issue for me.

Interesting because I have a Scala Freecom and I would rate it as 'OK'. I don't find it very loud - at higher speeds I can barely hear it at all - and at anything above about 40mph callers struggle to hear me.

Prior to that I had a Sena SMH10R which I found much better for call quality until the rain killed it.

I've got a pair of custom moulded bluetooth earplugs which are fantastic but broke, no audio in one ear. Sent them off for repair and they came back with a new upgraded bluetooth module, new cables and still no audio in one ear.

Do you mind me asking where you got your custom moulded ear plugs from? I'm in the market for some of them and a recommendation would be great

Sena 20S, no complaints, we had 4 of them, excellent for us all to converse at the same time!
