You could well be right there. They are Wossner forged rods that I stupidly thought were titanium rather than forged steel. Bike does have lots of titanium bits but not the rods.

Here we are talking about the best and fastest superbikes of thier era and the best thing about it for me, is that they are all accessible, some for the price of a 10 year old hatchback.

You just can't have this conversation about the car equivalents as very few of us can talk with experience of owning them and have to go off magazine reviews or whatever.

I see the latest Ducati course v4 and I know that I'll probably own one some day. I just can't say that about the latest Ferrari or Maclaren etc.

About the hayabusa, what made it great in my eyes was that a lot of the general non riding public knew about it. Even now if I told my mates I was buying a hayabusa they would immediately know what it is and would straight away tell me I'm going to kill myself ..

My Fireblade got a similar response, not that it's the fastest superbike ever but more so that the name resonates with people that have no idea about bikes. Same goes for the R1 I reckon as well.

You mean it gave you and many others pub bragging rights? Looks like my comment wasn’t so ill informed after all.

I was tempted by a ZZR1400 or Busa as a "slower" more touring bike than my current bike

But as others have suggested a lighter bike may be more use for me

No as like yourself I've never owned one. Bragging in pubs ain't my thing either, I stopped st like that when my school mates finally found out that my dad's other car hidden in the garage wasn't a Porsche 911. His daily was a cortina 1.6L ...

I was being flippant, but I genuinely think that a lot of the ownership angle was about the bravado of owning the fastest production bike ever made. Much like you wrote.

I need to be careful though because any suggestion that I don’t love this bike is similar to admitting to shagging someone’s mum.

The problem isn’t that you don’t love the bike, it’s that you’ve formed an opinion (that you’re sticking to) without even sitting on one, let alone actually riding one.

As fast as any superbike, but can tour very well. It’s not a compromise it’s a great mix of abilities instead of the one trick pony superbike or full size tourer.

But yeah, it’s all about bragging rights. That’s why there are so many bikes of this type with high miles on them.

So a superbike can’t do anything except be ridden at speed?

Odd.

Actually this true. Litre bikes are absolutely awful under 30mph compared to sports tourers, naked bikes etc. They heat up quite a bit and there is just way too much weight transfer onto the wrists at low speeds which isn't pleasant at all.

Weight transfer onto wrists? I’ve never had this problem. Are you one of the bolt upright, locked arm type riders?

Okay, it seems that Suzuki is only catering to you sophisticates on your ADV bikes and maxi scooters - the old girl is still being produced for the Rest Of The World. https://ultimatemotorcycling.com/2018/12/14/2019-s...

And, amazingly, it will continue to be thrown together in India, for local market consumption at the equivalent of £15,500 (ex tax). One of the last places you'd expect to see one..... Which begs the question, what on earth has gotten into you lot there in the UK/Europe?!?!

Emissions regulations and a few other bits n bobs, known colloquially as Euro 4, although there’s more to it than just that.

My Blader is cooler, more comfortable, more nimble and easier to ride under 30mph than my ZZR1400. My 1098S less so. There are a lot of different flavours of litre sports bikes and most are less of a one trick pony than bikes whose design brief specifically focused on top speed bragging rights.

Aside from the weight, the biggest issue with the ZZR and Busa in particular, are their long reach to the bars compared to shorter sports bikes. This for me destroys any comfort advantage of slightly higher bars as your back is flatter so your neck is still strained. This does not apply to the K1300S as it's more upright, but in my view that bike leans more towards touring end of sports tourer anyway.

A very popular ZZR mod is bar risers which probably means I'm not the only one to think this. Certainly 1290 GT, GSXS1000F, MT10 touring etc etc are all way, way more comfortable, perform better in town and point to point pace, and in acceleration will all be faster than the ZZR and Busa below 100 rolling on throttle in higher gears, due to shorter gearing, lack of mass and 10-20 year newer more modern mass centralised design.

Me neither.

I happily ride my 'one trick pony sportsbike' through bad traffic, city riding, commuting, etc. with ease. In fact it is bloody good at getting through places were naked / touring bikes cant ... in fact I'm touring on it in Europe next year.

... covering at least 10,000 miles a year on it.

Not bad for a one trick pony sportsbike?
