Gents,

Just a quick one to say I've put a deposit down on a new M140i. Absolutely stoked and the end of the month can't come quick enough!
Went for the 5 door hatch (Mrs won't allow a 3 door sadly) Shadow Edition in Alpine White with black interior.

Options are:
ZNP - Pro media pack
20Y - 18" jet black double spoke m light alloys
430 - folding exterior mirrors with anti-dazzle
494 - heated front seats

Got the 3 year service pack, GAP insurance, AutoGlym and tax included for free (is anything really free with BMW?) as well.

It's worked out at £399/month with £2k down (based on 13k miles/year)

Mrs is taking a Mini out for the 48hr test drive on Thursday so I'll pop in to BMW (they're next door to one another) and see what the latest is on the car.

Will post updates later and photos once I'm actually collecting the car

Great choice! I used to have an M135i and loved it, they're properly good little hot hatches. Yours sounds like a good spec thumbup

I've got an M240i coming tomorrow as a stopgap car until my new Z4 arrives, am looking forward to being back behind the wheel of an M-Lite

Is that M240i a loan car then? Bet you can't wait for the Z4 to arrive!

The other way around for us. I had an orange convertible Mini Cooper sport, 800 miles on the clock as a loan car from BMW for 3 days. Mrs drove it for all of 10 minutes and fell in love with it! As long as she gets rid of the A1 she's currently got, I'll be happy. Don't get me wrong, the A1 is a great little car to throw around, but more powah is needed.

The drive home is all of 15 minutes but I might take a wrong turn here or there beer

On a side note, something the salesman mentioned when I asked about the running in service. He told me that these engines don't have a running in period OR a running in service, as they come bedded in already. What are people thoughts on this? I'm tempted to take it easy for the first 1200 miles anyway, which I'll cover in the first month of owning it.

Good stuff.

I’ve just factory ordered one. Alpine white, orbit grey alloys, black leather with blue stitching, pro nav and heated seats. The deals on these are amazing at the mo. I just need to wait until June to collect it.

I’ve been after one since last August but was waiting for the right deal which came up recently. I wanted Sunset Orange really but monthly costs were king as I’m leaving my company car scheme and I was already slightly over so didn’t want to fork out and £12 a month for paint.

I think they’re great little things and I guess there’ll never be a hot hatch with a big six pot again. It seemed a sensible compromise between performance and running costs too. I really wanted an E90 M3 but I think the general running costs and fuel over 15k a year would have become tiresome.

Absolutely, the deals are great on these! I was originally after a 340i but saw the deals they had on unregistered M140i's and it was a no brainer.
How come you need to wait until June?

It’s a factory order.

This will coincide with the return on my other half’s MINI. My company car lease is up in September, so I’ve bought the replacement a bit early but I’ve been told numerous times by different people that the extra support from BMW dries up this quarter. I reckon there’ll be some even better deals on the last few stock cars but didn’t want to risk it.

I've only had 1 BMW new enough for that to be an issue (a 123d) and like most recent BMWs there was no official "running-in" period.

But I made a point of not using more than about half the accelerator travel, not revving it over 2,500 rpm (5K red-line), not letting it labour in higher than ideal gears and varying my speed a bit on motorways for the first 1,000 miles. I figured it couldn't do any harm, after all.

Looking back I'm glad I did as I ended up keeping it for over 6 years and 80K miles with very few issues - so maybe it paid off! laugh

I don't want to p*ss on the chips of the guys that have just ordered M140s (I picked mine up a week ago, it's awesome), but anyone else considering one should take a look at TRL's deal on Baby BMW.

That’s exactly who I bought mine from!

It’s been so easy, open, transparent and pretty much all via email.

I had tried buy one a ew times via my local dealer but the ‘deals’ on offer weren’t good enough. I got suckered into their golden ticket event a few weeks ago, went along to see what they could do on a 140 and it wasn’t even as good as what I could get via Coast to Coast. The irony being that the dealer via that broker was part of the same franchise!

I was offered a deal that was more than I wanted to pay and was told that even at that price it was costing them money to sell me the car. I was also told that my target price was (£400 a month) was totally unrealistic.

My TRL deal for a factory order is slightly above my target monthly but without the £2k deposit that the local dealership wanted. Over the four years it’s £3k cheaper via TRL.

I called the salesman yesterday to thank him for his help to date and to say that I’d bought a car elsewhere. He asked about the deal and then whined that I’d not gone back to him first. I said, well if your not so good deal was costing you to sell me the car, I’d figured that there was no wriggle room left for him. The cheeky sods automatically added gap and paint protection too, which adds £30 a month. If they’d sharpened their pencils and not tried to shaft me, they’d have got a sale. Oh well.

I went with Marshalls because they're local and I wanted my car by the beginning of April and didn't want to wait 12-14 weeks. Just ran the numbers and going by TRL's figures, the monthlies would have about been £14 lower, but wouldn't have included the service plan or GAP insurance (not worried about the AutoGlym). Also the lead time with TRL is 12-14 weeks as it's a factory build, versus the 12-14 day lead time on the unregistered one I've bought.

Marshalls BMW:
Deposit: £2,000
Monthly repayment: £399 (including first years road tax, plates, half tank of fuel, 3 year service plan, GAP insurance and AutoGlym)
Annual mileage: 13,000

Additional monthlies through TRL:
£30 - Extra 5,000 miles/year
£13.14 - Pro media pack
£3.83 - Heated front seats
£2.75 - Folding mirros

Total monthly repayment: £386.72 based on 13,000 miles/year and a £2,000 deposit.

So all in all, I'm still chuffed with the deal I got. If I wanted a custom specced one, I'd probably have gone through TRL no doubt, but I didn't want to wait 12-14 weeks smile

That deal is way better than my local dealer offered me on a stock car.

I was offered a white car, pro nav and heated seats - £2k in and £454 a month. Factoring in the deposit that was £495 a month so a decent chunk above my target of £400 a month. It dropped to £463 once the GAP and paint protection was removed (they added without asking first).

It does seem to be luck of the draw - Knights were pretty keen / desperate to do a deal and were pretty close to TRL on both a stock car and a factory order but were a bit pushy / needy.

What?? Sounds like they didn’t want to sell you the car!
Mine didn’t initially include the service pack but I mentioned that guys on piston heads had been getting it thrown it for free at various dealerships so the salesman went to “speak to the manager” and came back with it thrown in.

I know.

I called them out of courtesy to say that I'd bought a car now, he was annoyed that I didn't go back to him first! Even after telling that my target price was unobtainable and at their 'great' rates it was costing them to sell me the car. I think they were just trying to see how far they could stretch my budget.

Yep that's right! My Z4 arrived in the UK this week but isn't expected at my dealer until the end of the month so I've still got a couple of weeks wait.

Am quite enjoying the M240i anyway. The B58 engine seems a good improvement over the older N55 my M135i had, feels so strong and sounds epic. Only change I don't like is the electric mirrors no longer fold on the remote, but apart from that it's a properly sorted little car.

Agreed.
Doing an engine break-in used to be a standard procedure with new cars. And it’s still the case that you should avoid running the engine at high RPM for the first 1,300 miles. Experts recommend a maximum 3,500 rpm and 90 mph in diesel models and 4,500 rpm and 100 mph in gas models. This will give the engine and transmission sufficient time to adjust to each other. Once you’ve reached the 1,300-mile mark, you can gradually increase your speed and your engine’s RPM. In particular, avoid to put too much strain on a cold engine. However, that’s true not just when breaking in a new car but for the whole life cycle of your car. Likewise, never turn off an engine that has been running hard. Allow it to cool down by driving a few miles at a gentle pace.

Been thinking about one of these myself my local dealer have offered a red shadow edition with pro nav, folding mirrors, adaptive , heated seats and front parking sensors for a very tempting £2850 deposit and £343 per month based on 8k. Not sure what to do I’m getting bored of waiting to find a nice e92 m3 or a Tuscan

I've just today picked up my pre reg M240i Convertible, 3 months old, 11 miles and 30% off list... Its Estoril Blue with black leather and is rather lovely... my first straight six and first BMW. Only issue I have is that the BMW Connected app doesn't work on my (rather old) iPhone, but I'm not sure it offers me much in case.

I think you have to have 'comfort access' to get the mirrors to fold via the fob as mine doesn't do it either. Not that bothered as you can just press the button in any case.

Just to say that being retired with little income a PCP deal was of no use to me, so cash for a pre reg was the way forward!
