Have the moped muggings/stabbings finally destroyed the maxi scooter market along with the ridiculous insurance quotes (if you can get any) in London?

For years I perused the TMax ads and always gulped at the prices being asked, even for a 14 year old model, but when my Vespa GTS300 went walkies at the beginning of 2018, I bought a 2016 model as a replacement.

The police called me a month or so ago to tell me that after a year and 3,000kms of robbing, my Vespa had been found. It's now back on the road and being back in London it's all I really need at the moment.

So sell the TMax.

Ebay has been a constant stream of emails: 'What's you're best price bruv?' and 'I'll give you half of what it's worth, 'innit'.

Biketrader has got me one caller who did come and see it, but wasn't interested.

It's priced lower than any of the others of the same year in the ads and well below the trade offerings. I have dropped the price again but still absolutely no interest.

I'd keep it if I could as it'd make a great tourer in the summer but need to release the cash and not have something else that needs tax and insurance.

Seems to be a theme running here as can't sell my house either, also at well below market value. Brexit maybe?

What on earth has brexit got to do with selling your scooter? Nothing!

It will sell eventually, try putting the price up! it has worked for me in the past.

I do wonder if that is the way to do it. All my stuff is always seriously well looked after, minted up etc and generally way better than anything else I see advertised, yet even though I always have the lowest priced stuff it never sells.

I'm blaming not being able to sell my flat due to Brexit, its clearly easier than saying its a ste hole no one wants it.

correct, the resurgence in the manufacturing of home grown linoleum will surely dent his industry.

Can you not just punt it off via one of the "we buy any..." websites?

Although you still have the hassle of haggling, both on the phone and again in person, it's still an enormous time and effort saving exercise overall. Unless they only offer you silly money of course.

Anything I have trouble shifting, I stick it on eBay for a 99p start with no reserve eek

You do need to keep an eye on it obviously, but the mate who put me onto that approach (who used to sell cars & bikes for a living) reckoned things generally find their right value when you list them like that.

Last thing I sold using the 99p start was my RRC last year and that went for a decent price which I was happy with.

You're selling a TMax, everyone probably assumes it's nicked. Have you done an HPI report for it and stuck the results in your advertisement?

You could try signing up to http://www.maxi-muppets.co.uk/
and post a link on their for sale forum.

Sold an R6 and a CRF250 on ebay using the 99p method. In both cases I got more than I was after and both buyers actually turned up and paid. Got plenty of the 'how much' questions and a few offers to end, but I stuck with the auctions. Just kept it polite and sent details/photos when requested.

Takes a bit of nerve but you can get a feel for the likely outcome by the number of questions and watchers.

It’s a deal then! I loved the last scooter I bought off a PH’er when he couldn’t sell it.

I want a TMax! I guess I'm like most London based buyers; concerned about the threat of constant theft even when riding the bike (not sure if thats overblown hype and media stoked) and in SW6 my SH300 is about £350 p/a TPFT whereas a TMax was £1,800+ for the same policy, same insurer. Decided to keep the 300!

The TMax has become pretty undesirable...good as they are. They are the scrotes weapon of choice and therefore very hard to keep hold of, and expensive to insure.

Seems that way. Dreading my renewal in June. My back on the road Vespa was expensive enough to insure a few weeks ago.

Ah the good old days of 2015 when insuring anything for me, old fart having ridden since the 70s, didn't even break a sweat.

What!! I thought I was doing well with the 300 at £350..! (had my license for 2 yrs, 3 yrs no claims) Maybe I live at the rough end laugh
Unfortunately a bike bike is out of the question cos I'm lazy and can't be faffed with dressing up in all the gear, and don't want a TMax enough to stomach £1,800 (from MCE lol)
