Importing an originally-USA-registered car into France, after UK ownership/ registration

Can anyone offer any advise on procedure & charges for importing a yank mobile to France, by a French resident please?

If particular vehicle details are required, it's a yr2000 stock Dodge (USA manufacture) Viper GTS.

So far I've got:

http://www.frenchpropertylinks.com/essential/regis...

Import Tax('VAT') in EU = 0 (car is old: year 2000)
Pollution Tax = 0 (car is before 2004)

PF~= 40
Engine size = 7990cc
Emmissions = 480g/km
Destination: Lyon

How are you going to get around the conformity issues, you probably won't be able to get a European certificate of conformity so you'll probably have to get it inspected by DREAL which can be both a pain and expensive. Good luck though!

Zeds, have been a French resident since 1994 and agree with Rushjob I'm afraid.

To register anything less than 30 years old in France you need a certificate of conformity from the manufacturer or importer. I have though seen some bizarre cars with French plates, indicating there may be ways and means.... However, I can only imagine that in the case of a serious accident the owners could have all sorts of problems.

Do keep us informed if you find a way!

Cheers and good luck.

Thanks for your insights. I've enquired about getting a cert from Dodge USA and i don't think it'll be too troubling...but probably take a while!
