Seems the CDI on my old Sprint is knackered. Problem is that there are dozens of newer units for sale on eBay but only one which the part I need, and it’s £250!

Mechanic who diagnosed said there’s a decent spark but just won’t fire. He tried a Power Commander on it, see if that helped but still wouldn’t play.

Any cheaper alternatives before I bite the bullet and spent 25% of the bloody things value to get it sorted?

Have you checked the listings for the part number? The same ECU may be used on other models.

You can enter the part number on the Fowlers web site and see a list of all the bikes that use the same part.

If you're on FaceAche there are a couple of owner groups that may be worth joining and asking for the part.

Always worth checking if other models use the same part number - expands the search for used parts.

Yep, you can load the appropriate map for free using TuneECU. You just need the common usb to odb2 cable.

People switch the maps from the tiger / speed triple, so I guess the CDIs are compatible?

This is interesting. So I can download a map and try and add it to my current ECU, assuming it's a software issue and not that the unit itself is knackered?

Just registered for TriumphRat so guess they may know more but anything I can learn is progress!

ECUs do fail. Some can be repaired, might still be expensive though.

Yeah, you can run diagnostics on it too. I've used it to update a map and correct the speedometer, it's great. The ECu forum on triumphrat is great, the mod for the Sprint forum less so!

Quite often it's not the ECU that's actually failed but the connections to it....
Have you unplugged the connector(s) and checked all the pins are physically there and show no signs of corrosion?
That would be a good start....

Did the mechanic check if the injector is firing petrol out?

Yup, all looks good and clean with no broken pins.

I can only assume so but didn’t specifically ask. He certainly gave it a good going over though

Will give that a go too - for the price it’s worth a bash. Thanks!
