Hopefully that 40 year old Igniter has survived the abuse ..... dodgy joints, crappy Halfords connectors and melted wires

The plan is to wire up the oil light, coils, starter motor, battery and generator so we can get the engine run up before we do all the more intricate wiring on the dash, handlebar controls, lights etc... that way it’s easier to trace any faults ....

Gradually working through the electrics..... I’m using KTM switch gear. The plan is to use the menu buttons to control the Koso TFT screen menus, if it’s possible..... the cool thing about the KTM controls is that they are back-lit. Using Superseal connectors throughout... and of course the obligatory Domino grips....

That JMC swinging arm. Is there an alternative, or does it have to be one of those?

Wanted to utilise one of the oil temp sensors that comes with the Koso TFT, so I’ve machined up a blanking bolt to replace the mechanical tachometer drive in the head...

The bike is coming along really well. But I remember JMC starting out building arms and I drag raced at the time, a lot of the seasoned drag racers said that they were more of a fashion statement than an improvement.

They were just box section at first then JMC started putting that bracing underneath and I think it looked a bit to gimmicky.

If I built a bike like that I would try to find an alternative. That looks a serious bike apart from the JMC arm in my sole opinion.

If there is no alternative then I would have to stick with it.

I would definately remove the JMC markings from the arm.

I like the JMC for for all the reasons you state...let’s be honest the whole project is an exercise in overkill ....

Note to self, if ever I'm looking for an example of how to look a complete ahole on the internet, I'll just copy and paste the above comment.......

So you admit that you have no empirical proof that the JMC swingarm has no benefits, other than the comments of some "seasoned drag racers" and what you think, but that means it's fine to slag off someone's hard work that is their personal choice.

Is it any wonder that build threads get deleted or at best never finished

I admire how polite KTM Boy is in his reply to you, it's a crying shame you couldn't have shown the same decency by not posting such negativity, but hey ho, that's your level it would appear.

Sometimes, just sometimes if you have nothing positive to say, say nothing..........

I think you will find KTM boy is quite sensible and has answered a polite question that he was asked.

Instead of 'reacting' he was proactive and positive in his answer and did not read into or imagine that anything other than what was asked was taking place.

I hope that helps you.

When it's done it will look really nice. The idea of a big old Z engine in a frame with good forks wheels and beaks is superb.

Keep up the good work.thumbup

Metmachex still make alloy swingarms similar to those made by JMC. While a cheaper option would be to use an arm from a more recent twin shock bike, such as the ZRX1100 / 1200. I have used the latter on my Z650/1170 project.

Drag racers "looked down" on JMC because they all ran 6" Over Spondon arms lol......

This works a treat for this bike in my opinion.

Fantastic build!!! clap

I'm in 2 minds about superseal connectors..... but I cant find anything better really for a sane price. I was looking at some RC style or motorsport style connectors, but its sticky to find a balance. I've been tempted to try something like these, but they are pricey and would need to invest in the tooling.

Having run tuned Z1s, with standard, Dresda box section and JMC swing arms, I can tell you from experience, that both are a considerable improvement over standard. And any way the JMC looks so good!
