Wife wants to get me a mag subscription for birthday. She has seen me reading both and has asked which I want. Thoughts?

Bizarre question OP. You read both, only you know which you prefer. If you can't decide, does it matter, she'll get you one and you can carry on buying the other.

Me, Octane and giving Road Rat a go. Enjoy both for the more in-depth article plus I find a lot of the other mags a bit same-y road testing the next incremental evolution of whatever or fawning over the unobtainable.

Neither - Octane & MotorSport are the ones I get on subscription.

Stopped Evo, Car & Top Gear a long time ago.

If you can't decide I'm more than happy for your wife to buy me a subscription to Car. Just let me know her number and I'll ring and give her my address.

If you have a short attention span , CAR . If you have a pressing need to read about yet another iteration of a grotesquely overpowered German car , EVO - but at least the text won't be quite as drenched in cliche as CAR .

I read Octane (excellent, as long as one takes Partridge tribute act Coucher with a pinch of salt) and Motor Sport (e-racing aside , always a good insight into the sport, especially now the souffle light (cliche -oops!) Jennie Gow F1 column has disappeared... )

.

Evo, easily the best lineup of experienced and credible roadtesters of any magazine.

This.

Less than £10 a month and you can read many titles and back issues. EVO, CAR, Octane, Classic & Sportscar, Autocar, Motor Trend etc etc.

And you can download them. Which is ideal for me with working away.

I'm unsure why this is even a question; having a subscription to one and continuing the buy the other yourself aren't mutually exclusive concepts...

Yep. I signed up to the free trial about 18 months ago, and have kept the subscription running ever since. Brilliant value!

All those titles above, plus Viz as well! No brainer! biggrin

Interesting question. There was a time when both were must haves for me. I think of the two, Car has lost its way more than EVO. It used to have a free thinking spirit about it which I loved. Wasn't afraid to go against the grain. The 1992 issue which headlined the VW Golf VR6 being a lemon is a good example. Now however, its joined What Car? and Autocar in proclaiming the German car as the best of every group test. EVO however I think in general remains the same as always. Very biased towards Porsche 911s and a little too much supercar content. Just as its been for 20 odd years now come to think about it. But good writing and fabulous photographs...... EVO would be my choice.
