Nice Muscle there too.

To be fair I do roll the bike to the end of my Cul-de-sac, so that the initial, "blast", is on the main road and not near my immediate neighbours, just the rest of the street (who I don't live next to)

On a Good note, we have a huge set of gates at the back of the house, just incase of a Zombie invasion ....

..... and the wife can hear me from the main road, so by the time I'm up the Cul-de-sac, the gate are open for me, wickedly good. That would never happen if I was as quiet as can be.

As for my exhaust being responsible for changing Government Policy ..... couldn't give a toss ..... the Government is going to do what they want, when they want, and there is nothing anyone can do about it, so don't try.

You think I like Electric Bikes and cars .... ahhhh .... it won't save the planet, but someone is gong too make a lot of money out of it, so it's happening whether we like it or not.

I'm old enough to watch (1973) (as a kid) as people were made to wear helmets, I've watched as the test for bikes has become harder and harder, how bikes have been slowed down, how speed limits have been vastly restricted, we used to have unrestricted speed limits, then they brought in the 70mph, which for Modern Bikes and Cars, now days is stupidly slow. I remember my father being pulled over for drink driving and the policeman asking if mum could drive us all home instead .... don't think that would happen now.

Whats going to happen is going to happen ...... so I don't care what anyone thinks

I'm just going to keep on announcing my arrival everywhere I go. Neighbours won't say anything, they are too busy smoking weed, I don't care what they smoke, do what they want. The other side drives an Electric car (yes you read that right) and is too busy furloughed sunbathing, and having been eating for the last 3 months he can't get out of his chair to complain.

So my biggest problem ..... is grounding out the exhaust

So, until then .... its business as usual, posing on a Harley ......

The picture of the grounded exhaust confirms my prejudices about HD. How can the exhaust hit the ground when you have such massive chicken strips ie how st is the ground clearance on your bike?

Why would I be pleased? The bikes being banned are at legal noise levels. It's very likely the usual gross over reaction to prats with illegally noisy bikes. Selfish inconsiderate dick heads spoiling it for who are actually not the problem.

I love the sound of a decent V8 and a V twin but, on the public road people just need to show a bit of consideradion and keep things reasonable.

It doesn't matter one bit, they rarely go above 60mph and are about the 'pose' and the 'noise' wink

There used to be a guy with a really loud HD in my old street. It used to be so loud, it shook the windows in my old house as it went past. I've hated those bikes ever since as they represent nearly everything I dislike about the motorbike scene.
Plus, he used to wear some bent leather waistcoat with his "motorcycle club' emblem on the back and I'm convinced he thought it made him look like a tough dude, when in reality, he was a mid 50's overweight accountant with a beard that was scared of his own shadow
Everyone is entitled to make their own choices in life, and I respect that, but you still have to consider the motorcycle industry as a whole, and stupidly loud bikes make enemies of the general public to us all

I agree. A nice V8, V10, straight 6, V12, whatever isn't the problem. A fruity exhaust note, no problem. But those of the "loud pipes save lives lives" brigade forget that if they only learned to ride the thing properly they wouldn't need OTT loud pipes.

On the subject of HD riders...why is it that they never give other riders a nod or wave? Too aloof? Too proud? Or just self conscious because they believe other bikers think they are s?

I like a nice sounding exhaust but HDs just too noisy.
As a 15K+ miles a year Harley Rider I nod at almost everyone (delivery L-platers are the only real exception and rank lower than cyclists on the twunt scale for me!)

I leave from a residential area between 0500-0600 each morning and although I have to have a brief 3-5 second burst to get up the incline from my garden, I then freewheel it all the way to the bottom of the cul-de-sac with the engine off-lights on. I then try to ride away in 2nd with revs stupidly low so as to make as minimal disturbance as possible.

However whilst I am being as considerate as possible, knowing I ride a fairly loud (but fully legal) bike, there are 125s with drilled out cans and wannabe Rossi's that I pass every day who make far more noise, then throw in the little boy racers with their fart-box changes or high pitched engines and their backfires and I'd say that the loud low rumbling of a properly tuned Harley carries across distance less and is generally less anti-social.

But horses for courses really, main reasons I ride a Harley is that the miles I do requires comfort, the train is too expensive, I work in London so a car is a no-no, and I'm not paying 1/3rd of my pre-tax wages on a yearly rail fare. So until they do electric bikes that can do 150 miles+ without needing to stop for a recharge and that don't cost the earth, then sorry chaps but I'll stick to what I enjoy and do what I feel I can do to minimise my impact on others.

I was following a friend today. He has an HD, I don’t know what pipes he had but it made a wonderful sound. Nothing obnoxious or earth chattering and the mechanical noises you could hear just sounded damped and smooth. It actually sounded wonderful ticking over, accentuating the pushrod valve system.

It means you can appreciate the actual sound of the bike without it violating your ear drums. It’s so much more cultured, a nice pipe is far better than an offensively and oppressively loud pos. Knocking the baffles out is just idiotic imho, totally unnecessary and counter productive because instead of people saying “that sounds nice” it’ll be “what a dick!”.

Self-centered much?
Noone gives a fk about your "noise".
Actually it is fking annoying, the worst motorbike noise is HD noise.
If someone turns around to see your pride and joy is because they are annoyed, believe it.

Why don't you get a real bike?

TBH, at a "distance", eg sitting i the garden, the worst sound is not the thumper engines like HD...... it is the screaming "race" bikes that are most irritating as the high frequency is the sound that really travels and pollutes.

OK we know the OP is a bit if a self centered prick.

But if you ask the general public to name a motorcycle a good majority will imo will say Harley Davidson. It is a 'real' motorcycle and that noise you hate is probably the most recognisable bike sound there is.

As we all know they sound loud from the factory as the sound is a huge part of what they're about. But like other brand bike owners some make them stupidly loud which is pretty much what we people on here are moaning about.

Having recently purchased my first hd ...standard exhaust wink....I have to say I've had nothing but positive comments when parked up....many thumbs up from people out walking etc etc......the only people crying about harley Davidson's are some other bikers ! What is it with them !....I'm no fan of sports bikes....but each to there own....peace and love ....oh...and I do nod....as does my mate on his hd.

I fking hate noisy vehicles.

I have 2 homes. One on a main road in a small town in Staffordshire. There seems to be a thing about driving at 40 mph in a 30 in second year.
Everything from wky little mopeds to multi cylinder sports bikes, from stty Corsas with peco exhausts to Whooshing dump valves.
On a Saturday night in the summer, it's impossible to sleep with the windows open.
We knew when we bought it it was on a main road, and I can deal with high volumes of traffic, but it's the pointless reving that really pissed me off.

The other is on a quiet cul-de-sac about 1/2 a mile from the local bypass. On a Sunday Afternoon, you can hear bikers giving it a Santapod start from the traffic lights. I just think "Tosser"

Ask yourself, will I wake the neighbours? If the answer is yes, ask yourself if this matters to you.

I'm saying this as a man that has owned an RD350LC on Expansion pipes and a Z500 with a 4 into 1 Ansa with next to no baffles, which spat fire on the over run, and whose house mates didn't need an alarm clock.
So it was OK for you then, but not for others now? Interesting take.

Indeed - and of course summer sees the MotoGP wannabees who you never see when the weather is anything other that perfect deciding that local roads are the places to act out their racing fantasies, complete with riding along with one hand on their leg in the classic 'just got that podium place after an hour of 200mph+ racing' pose.

There's one particular ahole near us who seems to think that 70mph through the village is just fine.

Thanks guys, TBH, I've been called so much worse .... and as for a pissing contest, I am very aware how little they are worth and that some peoples watches are more valuable than my total net worth. Its not a money pissing contest, it not even a noise pissing contest, its a nothing pissing contest
I think it is to do with the Brand, you get 3 loud thunderous Japanese bikes go past, "fast and furious", everyone rolls their eyes, I, "tick", past a car and the young children (boys obviously) are glued to the window, many comments on what a lovely bike, (I can't hear st because I have music playing in my ears).

I spent a great deal of time customising the bike .....

I even matched my helmet to the same black as the bike .....

We spent a week trying to get the subtly of the badging correct .....

What I'm trying to say is, the sound of the engine/exhaust goes hand in hand with the type of bike and I believe that people have far more patience with the HOG making a noise than a buzzing 125 flat out everywhere it goes.

You call me names such a self centred prick ..... in the old days I used to get up tight and respond, many many years of forum writing later and I laugh at it and, no longer is it a personal insult, comments now runs off my back and I laugh....and, believe you me, I know some people that make what I have, look like a Matchbox collection, one guy I know flies his helicopter to go see his car collection and takes his personal detailer with him ...... its certainly not about that ..... its about using what you have.

I've gone sideways on the Icelakes of Norway ...

I put my parents on the Glacier Express Tour and raced the Train from St Moritz to Zermatt ...

This photo is taken in Switzerland, but the background is are the Italian Alps ....

Don't even start talking about the times I took the car skiing (after converting the car{s} to carry skis on a Towbar)

Now its the Bikes turn ...... I'd like to take the old girl through the Swiss Alps, I did read about the Austrian Tyrol on another thread, so I am aware of the noise issue.

So its not a pissing contest about who got the biggest, most expensive, "whatever', its about actually using the machinery we own to go out and actually create memories ... I just happen to have a bit of a loud one that the forum here, does seem more split than I initially considered they would be .....

I still blame the red Squirrels for driving too fast ......
