It's less the fact that an exhaust is loud that gets me, and more that there seems to be a pretty decent correlation between people who have them and people who think it's brilliant to rev the bullocks off the bike and blip the throttle all the frigging time. I live in a village on a B road, and there are a fair few absolute bellends who have race cans and wang through the village at at least 2x the 30mph speed limit (if owners of V4 YEH and V4 YEP are reading this, then yeah, you are bellends, even though you have nice bikes). It's pretty unecessary. I wouldn't be bothered if people had race cans and toddled through in 5th gear at 30 - you'd hardly notice. But d1ckheads riding through at 60 in 2nd because sounds good? Feck off you nobbers.
Yep agree with all that - they're the kind of bikers that give everyone a bad name. Using speed inappropriately and noisily in urban environments where the poor buggers who live there have to suffer it.

I asked this earlier of the Bikers on here. no answer.
Why is it the need on Bike - thats the Sprts bike, otr the HD for the pedant - to blip the throttle at all when in traffic / stationary.

What do you honestly believe the need or intention in this ?

i think thats boredom...I dont do it but when sat in traffic or at lights with no music like I'd have in the car it has been tempting in the past.

I give my bikes a small (I honestly mean a small one) blip when going from neutral to first at lights etc... Always done this from waay back in the day - it’s automatic now.

Sure it was something to do with checking the bike was actually in first, but now that I type that out... it doesn’t make much sense lol paperbag

No idea, never done it, I think some people do it habitually without thinking ...maybe they have owned a bike which stalled a lot when they were a teenager learning wink

If we must do knobishness, then sure blipping the throttle at a standstill ranks up there - but the clear winner is sitting at full throttle with it bouncing off the rev limiter. While throttle blips may be the favorite of the HD brigade, this seem to be the annoyance of choice of power rangers on 4 cylinder bikes (clearly not all, but I've never seen/heard anyone who wasn't in full leathers on a four doing it).

At any gathering of bikes there will be some tit there bouncing off the rev limiter for seconds at a time. Apart from the tt in the saddle, does anyone get impressed by this godawful racket?

Yet, oddly enough those here defending their loud bikes seem to have lost the ability to stand up and be counted on this one?

Perhaps they're all furiously putting their stock pipes back on so as not to upset your delicate hearing?
Well done, you won the internet.

Can't say I've ever noticed anyone on a proper bike doing this, only kids on mopeds.

I live at the edge of a village where it goes from 40 to 50 and then NSL a few hundred yards further on. It's about straight enough at that point for an overtake (car, bikes should clear it easily) although many people neglect the oblique junction on the other side of the road- there are occasionally near misses as people pull out from that whilst looking over their shoulder (they shouldn't, but they do).

For me I think there has to be compromise- people are entitled to enjoy their bikes and their cars in the same way that I should be able to maintain a conversation when I'm in the garden. It is a residential area after all. The thing, for me at least as someone who likes these sorts of things, is that most cars and bikes really don't sound as impressive as their owners think. Mostly it's just gratuitous noise which is a bit tedious, but with a few exceptions.

However the only things that irritates me are when people come past significantly above the speed limit (at high revs- think 80+) and when the noise is so high that I can still hear them as they're decelerating into the next village just under 2 miles away. At this time of year there will be a few of those on any sunny day and I've been woken up at night by this many times. That's antisocial fkwittery and just another part of modern entitlement culture.
