Loud Bikes or quiet
Discussion
All 2-strokes are far too loud, whatever the exhaust!
Anything louder than the bike I'm on is too loud. Anything quieter is wussy.

I've never had a problem .... had a couple of cars try to take me, but with 0-60 in 3.5 seconds!!!
Happy to give it a go - my car is faster than your bike (and faster than my bikes too); and is faster consistently, with no skill on the driver's part, and with passengers too. Not sure were performance comes in to a debate on noise though. Just sayin...Dont like rolls said:
I can assure you I could hear it a mile away (endless bikes every weekend...like demented bees)......but you don't care about what I like do you ? How about I come over and rev my engine outside your window/garden every Sunday ?

Internet forums, you gotta love em I have a Harley V-Rod too. It came with the Vance & Hines exhaust from the dealer, the obligatory "stage 1" tune. No baffles even supplied ! It made such a loud crack firing it up I dare not leave my sleepy village at 7am on a Sunday morning for fear of appearing to be an inconsiderate tw@ of a neighbor. I wear ear plugs and it gave me a headache after a while, the novelty soon wore off.
I found that Vance & Hines offered a "quiet baffle" and bought a pair. Well its definitely quieter and more socially acceptable, but still sounds really nice and a lot louder than a stock bike. In the "fruity" territory whilst not being obnoxiously loud and sending me deaf. It would still be banned in some countries in Europe that have implemented noise restrictions already.
In Germany "Jekyl & Hyde" exhausts for Harley etc are now popular. They have switchable electronic baffles. Legal around town, then press a button on the bar when out of town so you can deafen yourself. Not cheap, but hopefully the way forward for the air-head Harley gay pirate gangs

I'm in the middle ground, I like to hear the exhaust and have fitted aftermarket exhausts to all my bikes.
However when I decatted my KTM 690 whilst it sounded great, I thought it was unreasonably loud so I removed it
The KTM 525 came with a large Domus exhaust and even with the baffle, it's too loud so I'm fitting a standard exhaust

As the for the guy with the Ducati .... nice, looking at one myself
Nice Muscle there too.
To be fair I do roll the bike to the end of my Cul-de-sac, so that the initial, "blast", is on the main road and not near my immediate neighbours, just the rest of the street (who I don't live next to)
On a Good note, we have a huge set of gates at the back of the house, just incase of a Zombie invasion ....
..... and the wife can hear me from the main road, so by the time I'm up the Cul-de-sac, the gate are open for me, wickedly good. That would never happen if I was as quiet as can be.
As for my exhaust being responsible for changing Government Policy ..... couldn't give a toss ..... the Government is going to do what they want, when they want, and there is nothing anyone can do about it, so don't try.
You think I like Electric Bikes and cars .... ahhhh .... it won't save the planet, but someone is gong too make a lot of money out of it, so it's happening whether we like it or not.
I'm old enough to watch (1973) (as a kid) as people were made to wear helmets, I've watched as the test for bikes has become harder and harder, how bikes have been slowed down, how speed limits have been vastly restricted, we used to have unrestricted speed limits, then they brought in the 70mph, which for Modern Bikes and Cars, now days is stupidly slow. I remember my father being pulled over for drink driving and the policeman asking if mum could drive us all home instead .... don't think that would happen now.
Whats going to happen is going to happen ...... so I don't care what anyone thinks
I'm just going to keep on announcing my arrival everywhere I go. Neighbours won't say anything, they are too busy smoking weed, I don't care what they smoke, do what they want. The other side drives an Electric car (yes you read that right) and is too busy furloughed sunbathing, and having been eating for the last 3 months he can't get out of his chair to complain.
So my biggest problem ..... is grounding out the exhaust
So, until then .... its business as usual, posing on a Harley ......
Nice Muscle there too.

I’ve just bought a Sprint GT and amongst the first things I did to it was get rid of the ugly heavy end can
and fit this
Lighter , better looking in my opinion and makes the triple sound lovely.
It’s a bit noisier than standard but if it’s antisocial so is speeding.
How many accidents/fatalities are caused by a noisy end can?

Yep that sums it up.
On the subject of HD riders...why is it that they never give other riders a nod or wave? Too aloof? Too proud? Or just self conscious because they believe other bikers think they are s?
I like a nice sounding exhaust but HDs just too noisy.
Just not true about Harley riders though is it ?On the subject of HD riders...why is it that they never give other riders a nod or wave? Too aloof? Too proud? Or just self conscious because they believe other bikers think they are s?

They are as likely to nod/wave as any other biker.

As a Harley Davidson rider, I believe its my divine duty to provide a musical note that all pedestrians and others can stop, look and listen to.....
Personally, mine would wake the dead..... just the way it should be. My worst nightmare would be an electric bike
Interesting concept. So when the next person hears your silly noise and stops right in front of you, causing you to concertina your stupidly raked forks and break both your legs, you'll count that a good afternoon's work? GFY.Personally, mine would wake the dead..... just the way it should be. My worst nightmare would be an electric bike

So basically what you are saying is that you are a vain narcissistic attention seeking poser?Nice Muscle there too.

You couldn't make it up, you don't give a toss about the noise of your bike because the government will change the rules anyway, you don't have the slightest comprehension that the two might be related, just slightly, what a plank.

No I meant hairy dogs of course. Makes perfect sense not sure why you questioned it.
Because your statement made no sense. All Harleys have a mechanically unsympathetic noise ? seriously ? lol Aye ok.Most I have heard (many hundreds) sound just fine.
Buy a 90's Kawasaki if you want to hear mechanically unsympathetic noise

I'd rather listen to a washing machine full of spanners than a loud Harley, but you do you. Actually, would I be able to tell the difference?Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
