Riding in Somerset
Discussion
Me and a mate normally do a Scotland trip once a year, but having been soaked to the skin on the last 2 times it has put us off slightly! After watching one of the 44Teeth vids where they were riding Somerset I think we are going to stick our pin here this year.
We are both from the North and don't really know this area, so if anyone can suggest any good places to stay, visit, etc. that would be useful! We will probably have a couple of nights away in total, maybe 3..

I've found a couple sites with great routes we've been trying out. While not tried the Somerset area yet, I've not been disappointed yet on all the South of London routes we've tried from here.

I'm 25 mins from the Mendips. Ok for a hour or 2 ride but that's about it. So most of my time is spent in South to Mid Wales, much better roads.
Unless your looking at Devon/Cornwall and roads like the A39 above Bude cornwall.
Yes, you broadly need to be on the West side of the M5, so West Somerset and Devon and some bits of Cornwall.Unless your looking at Devon/Cornwall and roads like the A39 above Bude cornwall.
Head on down to South Bristol and pick up the A 39. That will take past Glastonbury, Minehead, Lynton, Bude (aka North Atlantic Highway) and pretty much all the way to St Ives . Then get on the coast road to Sennen/Lands End (this is a must if down that way). I live in Somerset and will be doing most of that on Saturday, we very rarely touch the M5 on our way to Cornwall. Also as said Dartmoor (watching out for sheep) with refreshments at The Warren Inn.

You can do far better than the a39.Head to Taunton ( maybe add cheddar gorge nr Bristol )
b3224 you go past raleighs cross which has a pub that might be worth booking a room for the night
b3224 - exford again worth considering a room in the pub
b3223 - simonsbath another pub , it then heads up and over the moor before dropping down to lynton/lynmouth that have accomadation .
Then you could take the a39 one way into devon/cornwall or the other way back towards minehead .
Maybe take the a39 then turn off at dunster onto the a396 and follow that till it joins the a361 in devon or cut off at dulverton then back onto the b3223 back towards exford/simonsbath again.

Some interesting suggestions, thanks for the input.
I'm going to travel to Padstow for a few days in August, A39 was the obvious route down but I might mix it up a bit now!

If your in padstow the b3276 that goes to watergate bay is decent .

The coast road down zennor is good but it's a fair trevk
Is that taking the A3075 / B3300 / B3301?I'm going down to meet up with the girlfriend and a few of her friends... a trek is exactly what I need!
Don't miss out exmoor though to get down to Cornwall quicker though.
On the way back ( obviously go back across exmoor) you could always detour to Dartmoor , trouble is the scenery is nice but there's a speed limit over the entire national park.
