Buying a set of bike controls for $10 doesn't seem like sound sense to me - a safety critical part made of cheap ste.
I agree, I fitted a cheap chinese brake lever to my freshly built track bike, it caused the brakes to lock on after half a mile going up clay hill at Oulton, it cost me £2k and wrote the bike off, I was uninjured, no matter what you tell people they will still continue to fit them and say 'I've had it on for the last 20 years and 3 million miles and its been fine' which may be true right up to the point where you really need to use it.LimSlip said:
This is why I'm wary of Chinese brake levers, especially the folding ones that appear to have been designed with an extra weak section at the point of highest stress..
I got a set of what looked like nice ones for my F4 - as soon as I saw them in real life I didn’t even try fitting them. If you want really nice folding levers you can’t go wrong with Evotech - very nicely made in the UK and not outrageously expensive at £115 a pair, lot less than ASV.

Good timing OP - I was considering buying some.
Although if the problem is that they break if you grind them, I'd be ok
The one in the video looked like it broke from the loading of weight as the rider leaned on it on the way into the corner.Although if the problem is that they break if you grind them, I'd be ok
I'm trying to think of a situation where using cheap Chinese crap instead of good quality stuff doesn't end up being a false economy, but I can't think of any yet. In any situation where safety depends on the kit doing it's job, buying cheap crap isn't worth it. I doubt there are many sky divers doing jumps with £10 parachutes that they bought from AliExpress.

I gave up telling people about Chinese stuff such as brake levers/foot rests and bars 10 years ago.
Beef curries are Ok though.
I gave up telling people how my mate bragged about his £12 rearsets, which ended up with him owning a 4ft long, 2 year old ex-Blade at Almeria 10 years ago (actually it was 12 years ago). Mind you, the distance it travelled into the desert on it's own, going boing-boing-boing end over end, was about halfway to China.Beef curries are Ok though.
I quite like a Kung Po chicken.
The irony being that I’d imagine almost all OEM footrests are (or soon will have!) some footrests made in China
Like everything, just do due diligence. If you’re buying anything off someone who can’t prove the origins you’re taking your chances.
If you’re buying from a manufacturer, just ask to see the CoC for the material. It shouldn’t be an issue. If you can’t be arsed to go to that trouble, buy from a source that you trust will have asked that question for you but expect to pay for that service.
It’s not to do with where they’re made, it’s to do with the level of control the manufacturer has and with engineering and manufacturing the price will often give you an indication.

A CoC proves two things, 1, the supplier has a printer and 2, they know how to use it.Like everything, just do due diligence. If you’re buying anything off someone who can’t prove the origins you’re taking your chances.

Of course people can print their own but the levels of stupidity and naivety to do that in this era would mean I'd assume they couldn't operate the printer.
