Got a bit cheesed off this week when I had to cut the lining out of my Dainese gloves in order to get my fingers in, so I’m after a decent pair of Goretex mid-season gloves. Had similar with various other gloves.

I’ve kind of accepted that the linings will go at some point in any glove, but I’m hoping someone on here has found the Holy Grail of waterproof motorcycle gloves and is willing to share their wisdom.

Going a bit off-piste, one solution might be those awful muff things and heated grips, which might allow me to get away with non-lined gloves all year and certainly through Autumn and Spring, but that is getting a bit desperate.

I use BMW ProSummer Goretex gloves in the colder months. They're too warm for summer, but great in spring/autumn and even winter with heated grips. Mine have done about 30K miles at least, and they're still waterproof and in good condition.

I used Held Rain Star for about 8 years until I filed them in a cupboard somewhere and lost them. No problems with them, though they seem to have been superseded by Rain Cloud 2.

Same here.

I've got handguards and heated grips too. Look after them and they'll look after you.

Another for BMW Pro Summer - I worked for BMW Motorrad and was given a pair of these as part of my riding kit which sadly they made me return when I resigned. A year after I left, I actually bought another pair with my own money as I couldn't find anything as good.

Just had a look at these, they do look good. Outnumbered in the post above liked these for winter with heated grips; how did you find them in winter? Can you only buy them at BMW dealers?

Used mine all through winter with hand guards & heated grips, yes they're a BMW Motorrad item so shops or online. IIRC there is a german BMW website that does the whole range of spares & clothing & is cheaper than retail in the UK - Bohling I think, worth a look.

Much as I like BMW clobber, the Pro Summer is more like a ski glove: no knuckle armour or scaphoid protection.

The Holy Trinity of waterproof bike gloves is a liner that can’t pull out (Gore Grip or Outdry™), an excellent cuff seal (double-cuff or drawstring), and treating the glove so it can’t “wet out” ( Nikwax Glove-Proof).

My recommendation would be Spidi NK-6 gloves; mine have been superb. But others are worth a look: Racer Race Carbon and Spidi Globetracker gloves. The Race Carbon has better scaphoid protection but Spidi uses Outdry™ (brilliant!) for its waterproofing.

I use Held Race-Tex but after over 4 years of hard use (between 15,000 and 18,000 miles a year) I'm just in the process of replacing them with Held Chikara gloves.

The Race-Tex have been completely waterproof IF I put my gloves/waterproofs on in the right order/in the right way. If the cuffs of the gloves are inside the sleeves of me waterproof jacket then everything is fine but getting them inside is a real faff and I regularly leave them out, resulting in water running down me sleeve and into my glove. It doesn't happen every time but it happens most time.

The gloves are warm enough that with heated grips, have worked on early morning starts that have shown -4 or -5 on the bike thermometer, yet have also been fine in 30 degree days in Spain/France. I have lots of feel with them and the velcro fastenings are easy to use and work.

Another vote for Held Racetec. They survived our recent Scottish underwater trip no bother. Loads of feel. Only word of caution is that my son's pair has just had to go back as the lining has come adrift at 6 months old.

Ride all year and do a lot of miles (Blood Biker). Gloves wise, Held Air n Dry for Spring and Autumn. Been brilliant, had two pairs, first pair lining gave way at nearly the 2 year point, gloves were replaced no arguments. A few months ago bought a pair of Rukka Apollo, have also been good in some biblical rain. For Winter, I have a pair of BMW winter gloves, totally waterproof and warm, but quite bulky. I also use Gerbing heated gloves, again brilliant, but as they are leather they do get heavy if in torrential rain, but have never leaked.

Me too. I had Held Race-Tex for a while – well built, Gore-Tex, and a complete faff to get under my cuffs. But once I tried gloves with a drawstring, there was no going back: it’s a doddle to slip them over my sleeves quickly and, with one tug of the drawstring, get a waterproof seal. Also, unlike gloves under the cuff, the drawstring means no drafts-up-the-sleeve. A revelation!

Have you tried Duckswax for leather gloves? It worked for me! (But for textile gloves, I found Nikwax Glove Proof was the answer to prevent wetting out.)

Not dainese, I paid about £140 for some waterproof winter gloves and they are utter crap, can feel the lining has already gone and I get cold hands when it is about 5 degree after about 10mins.

Learned my lesson with Dainese, though to be fair the ones I just cut up probably lasted 3-4 years. Been quite happy with my FMPs though and they’re about 7 years old.
