500 bhp. Almost complete silence except for the terrifying high pitched screams coming from the rear tyre.

I‘m looking forward to it.

If they handle, brake and look good then they'll be great.

Who knows when or if IC engined bikes will be culled but I'm looking forward to riding for decades to come.

I've ridden a couple of zeros and while not quite there in my opinion it's only a matter of another model generation / battery tech upgrade and I'll be interested in getting one.

As for the noise aspect, I love the sound of my bike, but I would happily forgo that to have a great handling bike with enough torque to send me to the moon.

I was only having a similar discussion a few days ago, if you watch long way up with Charlie and Ewan you'll see just how far behind the world of electric motorcycles currently is, from reliability, charging, range, how cold weather really affects charging and range on a bike.

Likewise, if you look at Moto-E they do 8 laps before I am guessing the battery is spent....

I think the performance would be staggering, but weight, lack of engagement would play a significant part, when I go out I tend to do 200-300 miles around Wales with a couple of mates, I just don't see how that could be achieved anytime soon on an electric bike, imagine 3-5 bikes turning up to charge and there's already a queue of 15-20 bikes waiting on a sunny weekend in Wales?

In there current format it doesn't stack up as a viable option of a leisure motorcycle, commuter bikes yes.... maybe this will be the end of the superbike, even touring bikes in the future... long after I'm dead hopefully.

why would you want one? for the massive weight? lack of noise and feeling? rubbish reliability? iffy charging?

most big bikes can do 0-60 in under 3 seconds(if that's your pub bragging issue), what will an electric motor bring? Bikes aren't lacking performance.

Noise and vibration side, do you really think all of those problems are beyond fixing? An electric bike will be the most reliable you can ever own.

Battery technology has come on so far in the last decade alone (despite many claims that they couldn't improve it), give it another few years and again more will come.

lets face it, most motorcycles are reliable.

I don't think they'll ever be able to fix the sense of connection you get with an engine underneath you. also how you can choose the characteristics you like, il4, v4, v2, single etc etc.

I can understand people on twins and triples not wanting to lose that engine feel, but loads of people ride IL4's they won't notice the difference whistle

They aren’t lacking performance but there’s more to come.

Electric bikes are already lapping the TT over 121mph average, I think it’s quite likely we aren’t far away from the record involving electric, be it 100% electric or a hybrid of some sort.

A one lap race, you're lucky if there are three finishers, the ones that do finish have to "manage" the battery life just to get round the 37.73 miles.
121mph average, so still 8mph off the 600cc Supersport lap record, (a bike that could do three laps on one tank of fuel).

The technology for an, everyday, electric sports bike, that's comparable with current ICE sports bikes, is clearly decades away, as TT Zero illustrates perfectly!

I listen to "the race" podcast hosted by Toby Moody and is all about MotoGP, I've been catching up the last few nights on these podcasts since Xmas, they were discussing the MotoE series and can it get bigger, more sponsors, better riders etc etc. However the consensus was without the noise which is part of the draw to watch live racing it was doubtful if it would actually become a major series. Toby's thoughts were that change is coming to move away from ICE but batteries are the stepping stone and hydrogen et all was mentioned....

I'm not convinced it's decade's away, in 2010 the Zero S came with a 4 kWh battery, a decade later they're making bikes with 14 kWh

I fully understand why so many people don’t like the idea. But I don’t think we should be judging on what we see today. Another 10 years of development. The best minds in the industry focused on making them engaging and exciting... They’ll be different to ICE bikes but I’m sure they’ll be amazing by then.

The noise issue. It’s not a problem to me. I’ll gladly give it up if that helps keep us riding. I’d also expect lots more Motorsport venues to be open many more days when the noise issue is removed.

I felt the same until I got my GSXR on track...now I cant get off it (oh wait, what rolleyeslaugh )

Unless there's a massive reduction in the weight of batteries then there will never be comparable performance with current, everyday, ICE, sports bikes.
