I'm looking at a new rear shock.

Most likely Mupo due to UK customer service/price/quality.

Who else?

Ktech
wilbers
ohlins
maxton

who should I look at?

I got one earlier in the year. I’ve also had the basic spec Nitron on another bike.

The Shock Factory one looks great quality and it’s been working well for me. Albeit on different bikes I prefer it to the Nitron.

Is that a single or double adjustable from Shock Factory?

Impressed that the site lets you tailor the spring (and hopefully the damping rate) to your weight and usage.

At 360 quid the single adjustable looks very tempting for a bloke with no money who recognises that twice the adjustment could be just twice the chance of screwing the settings up laugh but have to recognise it's coming in cheaper than any new non-OE damper out there for my bike (most are 600 quid, or a grand for dual adjustment).

I also had a Nitron on a previous bike. Wasn't overwhelmed by it, particularly after I had it serviced and it started leaking oil. Neither service agent or Nitron admitted any liability but did give me a brand new one for some reason...

I got the entry level Shock Factory through Bike Revival, it is sat in my cupboard waiting to be fitted. Was only about a tenner more than the basic OE Yamaha shock.

Best suspension I've ever had was the Ohlins on my Ducati but would be a waste of money on the FZ6...

I won’t have a Nitron at all. I’d consider most other brands.

It’s for a bmw r nine t. So fun use only, ‘fast road’ and bimbles.

Ohlins is very good but you will pay for the privilege.

Whatever you do, make sure you budget for getting the front sorted too.

Ohlins will retain better value than the others when you decide to sell the bike on. Take it off, clean it up and get 75% of your outlay back....

Something to consider.......

The ohlins for these are a lower quality and cast etc. I hate the ohlins range thst are cast with flash marks, while most likely not as good as the maxton/Mupo/Wilbers etc.

in this case, I think Mupo makes the best sense.

Actually developed on a bike, lovely finish, good price and 'overly' adjustable.

Hagon make a wide range of shocks, excellent quality and value. They will also build you a shock to your spec.. length, rider weight etc.. all for no extra cost.

If it was a £500 commuter I’d fit a hagon.

Hagon make more than cheap commuter shocks.. stainless body, stainless spring, adjustable pre load and 10 way adjustable damping. Mine (twin shock) were approx £400 built to my spec.

If it was a £500 commuter I would also fit a Hagon as they are good value for money at the pocket money end of the market.

I would also consider a Hagon for the OP's requirements too as, once again, they are good value for money at the higher end of the market too.

A shock for sunny sunday('fast') A+B road use is quite a tricky thing. Hagon, now matter how competent wouldn't be in the same league.
