Converted my Thruxton R to tubeless after a puncture left me stranded, plus its far safer as the same nail in a tubeless tyre would normally only result in a slow puncture at worst, and often no leak at all until its removed.
Did you ‘convert’ a regular spoked rim or get a new rim or wheel? I always fear a puncture and I’ve no centre stand on the ‘big’ bike and it needs to go on an under-frame bike lift just to get the back wheel off! I’ve seen some folks on the net just doing DIY conversions with silicone seal, but not sure I’d trust that.
I'm afraid I'm one of the DIY folks on the netbiggrin
As many others have done used 3M extreme sealing tape, but there are other equally successful methods.
I don't have any issue trusting it, had no drop in pressure at all over 2yrs and 10k miles, If its done correctly the tape itself is extremely adhesive (as the name suggests) add in the air pressure and I can't see any possible scenario where it could fail.
Even if it did leak it would still be less severe than a normal puncture in a tubed tyre which as I (and you) found out leaks from every single spoke and around the valve stem all at once, resulting in very rapid and total loss of pressure. I was thankful I wasn't travelling at speed when mine happened and feel much safer now, knowing it won't happen again.

After sealing with 3M 4411N tape

Extra layer of strong Gorilla tape to protect the 3M during tyre changes, probably not needed.

Added right angled valves at the same time

That’s really interesting. I’ll look at that option come tyre change time. In the meantime, I’m all fixed. A shout out to the guys at M&M Motorcycles on the A10 north of Cambridge for the repair, inner tube and checking the torque settings after my hamfisted mechanicals were complete. Note to self, excuse to buy a bigger Torque wrench biggrin

An mot pass. Always a relief when they do. The tyres were still the bakelite oem originals! New Pirelli Diablo Rosso 2’s are being fitted Saturday. (Will have to get my brother to sort it as yet again, having had major back surgery I am having issues just standing up straight rolleyes)

God that’s a lovely looking bike.

Did you have to enlarge the valve holes to fit the tubeless valves?
No, you can get them in the correct size, 8.3mm I think.
Returned a couple before finding some I was happy with the quality of the valve and seals, these have been fine though.
While the hole diameter is ok I did carefully file a small flat on the curved circumference of the rim to help the valve seal properly.
It may not have been necessary but I wanted to give it the best chance of sealing first time and not shelling out for another tyre removal if it leaked, and I think the last 10k has proved it was the right decision.

Got home from work, jumped on the bike and went to Whitby for fish and chips with a friend.
Lovely evening for it, stunning scenery and after my longest time on the bike since owning it, I can still walk! hehe

Finally got out on it for a proper ride after the suspension work.

Roads were mobbed, but at least it was dry. That said it was 30-35 mph winds so not the best conditions. I stopped for a smoke and watched a craw fly about 3 ft forward then get blown back 5. He looked fked.

Seem to have fixed my bubbling coolant problem as well, stopped into the golden arches on the way home, engine got nice and hot on tickover, fan kicked in, no bubbling or pissing out coolant though.

I like my bike again. Just need a brake bleed and new tyres and it's good to go for the summer.

That looks great, had me straight off to the classifieds to look at Daytona 675s, late model low mileage bike's are really holding their value well.

Unfortunately I need to stick with commuting focused bike for now, so no chance the KTMs going anywhere in the next few years.

Cheers, much appreciated. I’ve just had the new Pirelli’s fitted. Its only done 4800 miles so it’s time to scrub them by adding plenty more miles.. smile

That looks great! I had an early 2004 916 Strada 20 years ago.. It’s still a stunning bike to look at

Two dry days in a row, and the winds even gone. It's even into double digits.

Lovely pics. I met a couple of 2T’s on a back road today, the smell was awesome. The KR1/2 not sure what is was due to closing speed, looked awesome.
