It was goodbye to this faithful steed today, 8 years, 20,000 miles, 2 engines (BMW corrosion scandal), 6 euro tours, 13+ foreign countries, many memories, I hope the next rider gets as much pleasure from their ownership as I did

What's the corrosion scandal?

Is it the 800 or 1200?
The front of the engine cover can corrode and quite a few get changed under warranty. Probably not painted correctly. I have an extended front fender on mine and don't understand why BMW don't fit them as standard (to stop chipping)
Whilst that was a definite problem with the previous generation GS up to about 2008. With the early Liquid Cooled bikes, GS, RS & RT’s 2013 onwards, they machined the cylinder heads after painting & this lifted the paint allowing moisture underneath, corrosion resulted. In fact it was starting to come back on my bike which is why I px’d it rather than selling on myself.

Parked up at the foot of the final hillclimb at today's TdF. Bikers love France and the French love bikes. A car wouldn't have foot within twelve kilometres of here.

Recent project i got my hands on it had been off the road for a few years and needed the following...

oil/filter (motul 5000 semi-synth), clutch (ebc friction plates and trk heavy duty springs), speedo cable (slinkyglides), gauge/speedo lights, tyres (avon av79 ultra 3d evos), chain oh and an MOT!

done all the above, gave it a nice polish and took it out for a shake down, absolutely howls - can almost feel the air infront being slurped into the intakes! Next on the list is to try some ebc hh or sbs pads on the tokiko 6 pots and see how they feel, if no good replace the tokiko with some freshly refurbished nissin 4 pots.

Fair play to you, still out enjoying the bike, i still remember getting stopped by an un marked car on the M1, after being shown the video of my registered speed and then there estimated average speed over the mile ( i did spot them so slowed down rolleyes) I felt physically sick knowing this was a ban.

This was all back in 2003 and i lost all interest in anything regarding 4 or 2 wheels for a while. Incidentally this was in a car.

I payed for a solicitor to come to court back then, it was funny listening to his speech with regards my remorse and the state of my mental health at the time after a marriage break up lol.

Good luck with the outcome , its the waiting that does me.

Picked up a GPZ500 that I owned before in 2019, it's been sat for nearly a year, needs front and rear pads, a set of tyres, front brake light switch and an MOT.

Tried to borrow a suitably sized trailer, failed so used the trailer car transporter from work! Bike looked a little lost!

They’re lovely little bikes, I had one for years, only got rid of it a couple of years ago as it wasn’t being used.

Somehow for me the purple has always worked with the green.
