..and they can cause more harm than good. I know this from personal experience.

The plastic cracking & scraping away can absorb shock. If the engine is spinning, the crankshaft can bend if you chuck the bike up the road.. and the head gasket can go. Directly bolting to the chassis/engine mounts can be a massive shock to the bike.

Just thoughts for you to consider?

was that a low speed spill , i could see that they would have a postive effect for what i did , a spill at 10mph or less , but high speed the engine was not designed with that sort of thing in mind so i suppose that it could harmful at high speed

errr, no it was braking from XXX speed to avoid attracting the attention of 4 walking Plods. Unfortunately cold tyres and the high resulting highside pulled them in like magnets. The crash bungs bent and cracked the fairing, and 2 months later the head gastket went. Ooops !

I always use them on race and track day bikes and have saved numerous frames, engine cases and rear sets by doing so. However never pay the over inflated costs charged for them, I bought a 1m length of 50mm dia Nylacast (oil filled cast nylon)www.farnell.com/uk part number 715-4537, a length of 10mm studding and a few nuts total cost about £25 from that with a drill and a hacksaw you can make enough decent length crash bungs for about 6 bikes. They may not be the best cosmetically but often the little "pretty" one do sod all good anyway, go for the hard core industrial grade bungs and they will save you money, oh yes and try and pick up on the main engine mounts not the silly little fairing brackets these will just bend and do more harm than good.
