What happens if I remove the little boxes that hide in the fairing (resonators) from the ram air system on my Ninja? does it get louder / faster / or slower?

Are they needed for anything other than water trapping and noise reduction?

Not certain, but if it smooths the airflow then more air should enter thus creating more pressure which in turn will force more air/fuel mix into cylinders which will do 1 of 2 things.

1. give (slightly) more power at higher speeds by effectively "ramming" more air/fuel.

2. If the fuelling can not adapt it will run lean, giving less power and risk damage to engine (burn holes in pistons!)

However it is unlikely to cause any damage but in reality you may need to turn up the fuelling to benefit from more air - in much the same way that you would with a race can (although the power increase will be smaller than with a can).

I changed the air intake tubes on the Duke for larger ones without restrictive in-line filters (fitted foam filter in airbox) along with fitting the "Termis", (it needed re-chipping & the fuelling altering) but the intake certainly "growls" more and the bike pulls much better, particularly in the mid-range but I think the biggest improvement was from the cans & engine management re-chip.

Only downside is that thumbs trap on full lock (and full lock ain't much on a 916!) making a (7 point!) u-turn even more difficult.

My advice - go for it, but check re setting it up

IIRC no kwack except the '12 has true 'ram air'. I think you'll lose midrange if you ditch the resonators for no top end gain.

Errr, perhaps I'd better leave it alone! didn't want to get it jetted yet. Might be interesting to fit bigger air pipes though.

ZX6's definately have ram air - they have the carb balancing/reservoir pressurising intake inside the main air way.. maybe it is just an illusion, but RA really does work. But only over 120mph.
