MT07 - My first bike!

So after lurking around a few forums for the last few years I thought it’s about time I actually contributed something.
I turned 19 earlier this year and I’ve always wanted to have a motorbike, however trying to convince my parents, especially my mum, that me sitting on a bike wouldn’t mean instant death was quite a challenge and she always said that if I ever bought a motorbike whilst living at home I would be kicked out immediately. After slowly hinting at the fact that I was getting a bike for the past 4 years or so I managed to convince them both that I would be extremely sensible and I would wear as much hi viz gear as would make them happy even if it makes look like some sort of space alien
So a few months ago a friend and I were bored one weekend so we decided to drive to one of the largest bike dealerships in the uk just to have a look around and that’s when I saw the best specced MT07 I have ever seen in the exact colour scheme I wanted and I knew I had to have it. After getting some finance quotes back that were so ridiculous I actually laughed when I saw them I realised I’d have to buy it outright which I didn’t really want to do but I had no other choice.
I’ve done my cbt, theory and mod 1 already and have my mod 2 booked in for this Sunday so fingers crossed everything goes well and I’ll be able to go out for a blast about next week.
This post will be updated over time as I do more things with the bike such as my first ride, first bike meet-up and first adventure out on it so hopefully when I look back here in a few years there’ll be some nice memories.

My first bike was a new tracer 07. The positives, easy to ride, screen was good to reduce wind, great range, great looking bike. The downsides, slow, poor engine tone and I was always left wishing I had more power.
Sadly it got stolen in broad daylight from my works main carpark right under CCTV and office windows!
I changed to a new MT-09, chalk and cheese. MUCH more powerful, more nimble, more toys like clutchless gear change, performance modes. Downsides, much smaller tank and screen - not much aftermarket choices as the tracer (but found something half decent eventually).
I think you'll love it, but you'll quickly crave more performance.

Thank you all for the replies, I definitely need to look into a chain for it, luckily I won’t be commuting on it as I’ve got the van for that so it won’t be left anywhere for long apart from if I go out on the weekends on it.
About the A2 part yes it’s got a throttle restriction so i can only use about half the throttle on it. Although it annoying the CBF500 I did my cbt and mod 1 on was restricted and that felt plenty powerful enough for me although as that’s the only bike I’ve ridden on the road so there’s not much to compare it to.
I know the quality of the throttle restrictors is so bad that they have a tendancey to fall off the bike
but I don’t think it’s worth the worry/hassle if someone really wanted to have a closer look at it.

Congratulations OP. I learned to ride on an MT-07 and think it would make a fine first big bike. I personally wouldn’t mess about with the restrictor. Have fun, learn to ride on the roads in A2 guise and when you’re allowed to take it off, you’ll have a whole other level of performance to enjoy without having to spend money upgrading the bike. It would be a kick in the balls to have it stolen but depends where you live and how long you leave it. I park up in Croydon on the street unsecured for an hour or so fairly regularly and have been ok so far.Lovely bike…

An MT07 is more than fast enough. Many moons ago I bought a ZXR400 and I was advised that I would soon get bored of it. Did I? No.
My advice to you comes in three parts.
Learn to steer & brake.
Expect the unexpected.

Congratulations! A lad I work with is a similar age to you, going through the exact same process and just bought himself an ER6n. My interest in bikes lay dormant since I was 17/18 until I started working with a guy a few years ago who had an R1M, 1299 Panigale, a Lewis Hamilton MV Agusta and a couple of others. I blame him for rekindling my love of bikes when I had a little go on the R1M 
The riding school I used had a mixture of ER6Ns and MT07s, and they were fantastic bikes.
Good luck for Sunday, let us know how it goes. You seem keen and confident, so that's a good foundation and it sounds like you'll breeze through the Mod 2. Indeed, those power restrictors have a habit of spontaneously 'disappearing', but unleashing more power from a bike you are already very comfortable with is a fantastic idea. Once you're comfortable with the derestricted bike, then explore upgrading to a bigger engine. Who knows, you might get the urge after only a few weeks, but you might love that MT07 and keep it for years.

Performance is subjective - I'm sure someone could come along and say Mt-09? Not enough power, why not the MT-10 (which is a monster). Just sharing my experience - I was thinking of changing before it got stolen but had months of real pleasure with it, did a tour of Wales, faultless and the larger tank was a boon. Great first bike! Besides, not sure how much the Mt07 and tracer mt 07 differs.I've been riding for 42 years and have had plenty of powerful bikes yet now I'm on a 300 Vespa and still having fun....
And more importantly, still learning.
