Wife has told me that if i want to take Mon-Wed off work next week, she's happy for me to "go and do something" for the week.

Only, i'm not sure what i fancy doing.

First thought was to jump on the bike and head down into France. Rent a place for a few nights to use as a base, then explore some WW2 stuff like the Atlantic Wall and D-day beaches.

But how easy would that be with a motorbike? Not sure i'd fancy walking around bunkers, etc wearing bike boots and a textile suit, carrying my lid. So mulling over driving instead, but that seems a bit lame!

Other thought was to just head off on the bike and see how far i can get in 1 week. See if i can take in southern France, Italy, Slovenia, Poland, Germany, etc in a big loop.

Thoughts welcome smile

No idea where you are based but if day south of the UK why not head up to Scotland and take in the west coast and islands using the ferry’s .

Given the climate there bike gear might be exactly what you need .

This is when you tell me you’re already based there lol

Good luck

East midlands, so potential to get either far north to scotland, or could make it down to dover in a few hrs. Or take a hull ferry.

North France coast appeals, but it's not exactly going to be warm! In fact it's forecasted to be raining a bit mid next week.

Currently in Tenerife . Wife dealt with all the covid BS proof of jabs etc . Not sure if same hassles with France but worth exploring first.

With little advanced planning maybe Scotland or the south coast could be a better bet.

Maybe head down to Devon or Cornwall . Some great roads and beaches to explore

WW2 sites in France are easy on the bike. Take a bicycle combination chain, through the arm of you jacket, through the chinbar onto the bike. Small pair of slip on trainers/shoes/pack a mac and you are sorted.

You make a good point about COVID. Need a pass to go abroad. Just got the NHS app and looks like it could take 7 days to get the pass through.

So will probably have to be in the UK then.

My advice would be to study the weather forecast carefully. It looks like north Wales will be due a week of decent(ish) weather.

Next, go to Airbnb or booking.com and find a couple of different placed to book so you can link up the dots on the map.

Take luggage if you have it and include some comfy casual wear, arrive at your destination then you can get changed and explore on foot properly.

When I want to disappear on the bike I often head up to Skye. You can go to Applecross for the views and great food. Come home or get digs in Mallaig via ferry from Skye. Head home from Mallaig taking in some amazing roads...

I doubt anyone would steal your helmet / jacket at beauty spots etc but as it would be a pain I just take my alarmed disc lock and cable loop and thread that through them

Should anyone mess with them the alarm goes off - I'd highly recommend one - mine's the kovix but I'm sure others are available

Think you can just download the pass from the app, or use the app itself as the pass?

Do not let COVID put you off a Euro tour. We managed it reasonably easily last September when COVID restrictions were much tighter than they are now.

I'd suggest the trip we did as a possible for your week off. It took us 9 days but if you had less than that it would be pretty easy to cut off some corners so it could fit into your timescale.

Ride to Liverpool. Ferry to Isle of Man. Watch the TT practices and soak up some serious biking atmosphere with thousands of others.

Still plenty of spaces at campsites or in honestly. There are even a few hotel rooms left if you don’t mind paying £500 a night for a B&B

Weather is looking good so you could ride up to the borders then get a ferry across to Larne in Northern Ireland. Ride the north coast then head down the west coast into southern Ireland. Maybe do a loop and head back via Holyhead.

Some great roads, great scenery, pubs with a proper atmosphere, everything you could want on a bike trip.

Yes good timing . Only issue would be actually getting on a ferry crossing and finding some accommodation

Loads of accommodation still for practice week. There are always sailing come up on standby if you get to the port. You just have to wait until they are close to departing and see how many no shows they have.

This is for practice week by the way. Race week is much harder.

Defiantly sounds like a plan on that basis .

Plus if you're East Midlands it's a decent ride to the ports over the Snake Pass. Perhaps phone the Steam Racket and see which port has spaces - Heysham as well as Liverpool. If Heysham go via Gisburn Road near Burnley and then the A59.

Normally with this question I'd say the Vosges and Black Forest but not in TT time!

A cursory search on AirBnB shows options still for next week.

Good luck and post pictures

Cheers for all of the advice. I decided to make the most of the week, given i had a green light from my other half.

So jumped into jet2 and booked the cheapest/best-ish place i could find that flights that were fairly sensibly timed.

I'm in Lanzarote!

I hired a CB500X yesterday and took myself off around the island. 230km in about 6 hrs, covering most of it.

Here until monday. Scuba diving tomorrow. Been snorkelling today. Out on the lash last night, which was incredibly messy, so didn't surface until about 11, then back to bed.

I may rent that bike again and do a similar route but anti clockwise this time.

Now that sounds like fun, you will need another holiday when you get back!
