Has he ever ridden off-road before? It doesn't look like it, Bolt upright, stiff as a board and shi**ing himself.

OK, I admit I have pretty extensive experience in riding off-road but I don't think that track looked that bad at all. Sit yer arse on the seat and 'leg it' if you're in doubt. Mud is far worse than rocks on a heavy adventure bike.

If you don't have much off road experience I certainly wouldn't try it out on a big adventure. I have slung on the Anakees and taken my Explorer 'off-road' but it can be a battle if you get to some deep mud. Its far worse than rocks on a heavy adventure bike.

I was watching another guy on YT comparing a 'proper' dirt bike / enduro (CRF/ KTM) against an adventure bike off-road and it had me shouting at the screen.
Of course a KTM 450 / 525 / CRF is going to handle it better than a 200 kg bike!!!! Try riding that 525 down to France or wherever first though!

Adventure bikes are capable of going off road but expectations need to be managed.
Dirt bikes, they ain't.....

I'm not sure what the problem is there. The well used Royal Enfield Himalayan I rented in India got me up far more difficult roads than that and I'm not in any way experienced off-road.

It's a wide open gravel trail.

Is that what adventure riding is?

I'm a mountain biker and it looks utterly depressing and dull.

The kitty litter surface would really start to grind me riding slowly on it.

I guess you won't give it a try then! But yes, you're right, Adventure riding is defined by 1 short video of a group of amateurs.

I watched a video of a bunch of guys driving to a forest car park, then comparing their 5-6k mountain bikes once. Based on that, I decided mountain biking was dull and boring.

Looks like a decent dirt road. Not sure what the problem with taking a bike there is.

Stuff encountered on the Yamaha school in Wales looks far worse than what they encountered there, and the Tenere can piss it. Yes maybe less capable on the road for big distance but can't be that bad. The guy who lost his st was quite ridiculous in panicking like that.

A pro trials rider riding in a quarry?

A CRF T7 would be more fun on technical stuff than a big bike on kitty litter wide open trails or farm double track.

Go and watch the Pol Tarres Tenere videos on YT. He makes the T7 look like a 250 2T trials bike.

As others have said I don't think the bike is the problem there

I ended up on similar(ish) on my 990SM on road tyres - I wanted a road trip around Wales, downloaded one and when I found myself on a gravelly / rocky track I remembered it was from an Adventure Bike site biggrin

My main concern was dinking an alloy rim

It’s not the bikes, I too am a MTBer so used to gnarly stuff. This in Slovenia on a steep forest track was easy on my GS fully loaded, had 50/50 tyres though, stand on the pegs and weight your body over the correct part of the bike to maintain traction and don’t stop

All the editing, dramatic music and grunting in the world couldn’t dress that up. Just a bunch of Clives and Cliffs bungling their way around some terrain.

Isn't that 99% of adventure bike riders ?

90% probably never get off the tarmac

So they are in the elite 9% biggrin

Best if they stay out of the Peak District!
Looked like a warm up trail to me ,
Mind you could tell from all the junk on the bikes and the lack of proper gear it wasn’t going to end well !!
