Yeah, Ford make the Ranger specially for those little aggressive guys.

On topic, GS and Harley riders don’t nod. Too busy acting out their fantasies.

I’m starting to think like an earlier poster though. fk nodding at everyone who owns a motorbike. I didn’t buy a bike to be in a gang or feel part of a community. I ride because I love to ride.

I don’t say hello to everyone who loves a steak when im buying at the butchers, or everyone at the park run when I rock up. They’re just people, and a large collective of people includes a large proportion of tossers who I don’t want to know and who would probably consider me a tosser in return, and that’s fine.

Problem is, loads of people nod and I know how annoying it is when someone doesn't nod back.
Couldn't agree witg you more. EVERY summer the Facebook groups are full of people bhing and moaning about the lack of nodding.

Bikers are no different to any other group of people. We're not all the same and a lot of us are complete James Hunts.

To be honest the GS wkerdom seems to be spreading to Tenere riders too - I’ve got one and try to add nothing; the whole ethos of the bike is slimness, lightness and simplicity, the polar opposite of a GS and is the real appeal.

However if you’re on one of the forums or groups there are guys on there - usually enquiring before they’ve even taken delivery - who obviously have never and will never take the bike proper trail riding. They festoon them with crap - massive bars everywhere, clumsy metal headlight grids (so you then need spotlights), tons of tat - but my favourites are caliper protectors and abs sensor protection. So. Much. Tat. Then you see a pic and there will be this bloated to fk, ruined “off road ‘weapon’” wearing a set of road tyres. rolleyes
I think it would be interesting to know how many (how few?) GSs actually go off road, even on the likes of a dirt road. Are GSs bought by owners in the same way many 4x4s are bought, because they look "ruffty tuffty"?

I'm not sure the GS attracts more than it's fair share of w£&nkers but they do tend to attract particular types of w£&nker. There are lots of "hollier than though" couples, in matching BMW gear, on bikes that appear to have been covered in glue then ridden through the TourTech and Wonderlicht (sp?) catalogues. But I suppose that's not really any different to hoodie wearing GSXR riders riding with baffles removed at completly inappropriate speeds through villages, or the chapters of bad-ass accountants on Harleys stopping traffic while they go around rounabouts at speeds that mobility scooters can easily match. Not the majority in any group but a big enough minority to justify a caricature.

Confirmation bias.
Ignoring 125s, the GS is the top selling bike in the UK. There way too many of them to assign a "type" of rider.

And anything is better than a sports bike with an exhaust to p*ss off anybody within a mile radius.

I think you’ll find the profile of the new Defender purchaser to be quite different. I think you’ll find based on my experience there (generally) well mannered professional types.
Hmm, the ones around here all appear to be driven by angry gym bunnies. Naturally, they're all black paint, black wheels, black pack, black black black editions.

Anyone experienced any rudeness from other bikers, purely for being a GS rider? I've recently got hold of an old GS1150 as I was heading off on a Pyrenees trip and my late 80s Japanese adventure bike developed an air leak that I couldn't quickly sort out.
Anyway, riding out of Cambridge the other day, another biker (Japanese sportsbike) was coming in the other direction. I gave them the customary head nod which he returned with a full on wan£ker gesture.
WTAF? Do people really hate GS riders?
I'd always assumed it was just a bit of banter.
Maybe he's met you ? biggrin

Seriously, I don't understand the negativity.

My mate rides a GS and we were following him a couple of weeks back. We got stuck at a train crossing and another GS filtered past me and pulled up next to him. They had a good 3- or 4-minute chat and seemed like best buddies. I texted him later on with an Inbetweeners gif. "Ooh Friend" biggrin
"Top Box wkers!" hehe

I don't mind GS bikes, or most of their riders. The ones who attract my ire are the ones commuting with two enormous metal panniers that make it even harder for them to get through traffic, but who won't pull the fk over to one side and let those of us who just use a topbox to get past. You're going to work in an office in Canary Wharf FFS, you have a clean shirt, a laptop and your phone and wallet in there. Maybe a lock and chain. You don't need 80l of carrying capacity mounted in an arrangement well over a metre wide, if I can fit all that in a topbox that doesn't hold me back in traffic.

Such riders very often are on a GS, though.

Went one with a group of friends on Saturday. Rained heavy on 1st half of ride, then it dried out. Caught a few friends out with their summer only gear despite having empty panniers

Stopped for food and drink at Fuel burgers

How many of the adventure touring bikes from any manufacturer actually go off road?
Infact more relevant, how many are taken touring or on adventures? ( going to Starbucks 20 miles away doesn’t count)

This. I often think "wker' every time I see one.

When I commuted into the city, I'd often get stuck behind a numpty pannier'd to the hilt.

I have been known to take a shortcut if the traffic on the A47 is completely shafted...

I know a couple of people who are insanely good off-road on a big GS, but I can't imagine trying to get one out of a muddy hole.

I've managed to drop both my CRF450RL (300lbs) and my Tiger 900 Rally Pro (500lbs) in the wilderness whilst on my own, and managed to pick them up multiple times, but it does get tiring, and you can run out of steam fairly quickly. I can't imagine picking up 600lbs+.

To be fair the T7 mob do seem to have a sizeable number who take them off road.

I didn’t mean to sound awful before; it’s all a bit tongue in cheek and if people’s hobbies make them happy then that’s a good thing.

I’ll draw the line a blocking others filtering and taking up all the parking though. They can FRO.

I’m a GS wker.

I was even wkier when riding my RSV100R or GSXR750 years ago.

I’m working on rebuilding my wkiness further, and then I’ll be ready for a KTM!

I'd like to be a GS wker!
Always admire them, would love to own and ride one, even though they are the 2 wheeled equivalent of the VW T5 camper!

On a similar note: I hate it when I nod and then realise they are a deliveroo or similar rider….they are not one of us. :-)
