Havier Beltran leaves Honda Racing UK
Discussion
It's pretty simple really
To be let go on the spot is 99% gross misconduct.
Anything else, there would be a notice period, even if the leaving party declined to 'work' it, the employment status would remain in force for the duration of the period.
To be let go so abruptly it's highly likely he's been accused of gross misconduct and basically been escorted out of the building.
Reasons? Take your pick
Physical assault, inappropriate behaviour, threats, theft or misappropriation, fraud, the list is pretty long.
As for sympathy, to be done and out in a day indicates something pretty serious and likely initiated or performed by the sacked individual. So no, sympathy is probably not appropriate.

My boss at work was let go instantly, simply put they often do not want you to work there and influence anything, youa re let go, with a deal invariably, nobody really knows so all of it is speculation
Is there a thread about your boss we can follow?Who in the public eye is taking a deal which makes it look like they’ve done something bad and been sacked?

Lots of these type of comments, has it ever been confirmed the bloke was sacked on the spot? I don't think it has been.To be let go on the spot is 99% gross misconduct.

All that has been communicated is that he has 'left Honda employment'.
If for example your big boss flies in, runs through all your operations you are accountable for, says this is not good, that's not good etc, you take it all personally or don't agree, and tell them to shove their job where the rising sun doesn't shine. This is just as much as 'leaving Honda employment' as the talk in this thread on Horner related activities for example.
From what I understand (wrong paddock for any accurate info but you hear bits obviously) the first situation that I have written above is far far closer to the truth than the second.

The reports I saw also said “with immediate effect”.All that has been communicated is that he has 'left Honda employment'.
Implication is he was out via the shortest route.

I think the former of the situations I wrote above you can happily add those words at the end, it's not like you are going to be asked to work notice
Trouble with that is he’s a 30 year Honda man. Honda isn’t that type of company where that kind of culture is common either.
Also why not do it Irwin style where they agree to disagree and nobody looks like the bad guy?

Maybe he has been on a performance plan for 6 months which expired?
I read it as he has left Honda immediately, not that he committed gross misconduct.
It’s not like football where they sack managers for fun. Besides the performance has been ok and there were only 3 rounds of the season left.I read it as he has left Honda immediately, not that he committed gross misconduct.

You could read it that way but i see that as I read it as he has left Honda immediately, not that he committed gross misconduct.
Look Havier, either you jump or we WILL push you and publicly, the choice is yours.

To go with immediate effect suggest he was escorted from the premises and his employment terminated there and then, that would never fly in a tribunal if it was performance related. If it was performance related and he didn't hit the targets, then there would have to be a consultation period related to improvement before they could start the disciplinary procedure, failure to do so would leave them wide open to an employment tribunal and they would get rinsed big time if that was the reason.I read it as he has left Honda immediately, not that he committed gross misconduct.
This is much more than just performance related issues, this is something far far worse than that.
He has been there a long time, he would be entitled to a no doubt large redundancy payment if he was on a permanent contract, nobody knows if he was, he could just as easily been employed on a contract basis, that being the case, being let go immediately is nothing at all to be shocked about, as it is all part of contracting. Nobody knows anything about this.
He could also have been given 3 months notice (or anything else) but put on gardening leave, which some media would translate as ending employment with immediate effect.

Granted but it wasn't just Honda Racing UK, it was from Honda full stop which suggests something bad has occurred. At the end of the day, the only people who know exactly why this has happened are not likely to come on here and let us all know, so we are just surmising.Another perfectly innocent explanation is that you can join a competitor. When I worked in oil and gas exploration, if folk were leaving they asked where they were going. If it was another oil company it was common HR would take you back to your desk and watch as you cleared it there and then, so you didn't take any secrets with you. Yes, you'd get paid in lieu of notice - or sometimes gardening leave - but you'd be physically done that day.
30 years of running a race team might be seen as valuable experience for someone who doesn't go racing currently - like one of the Chinese firms - and they've offered him such absurd money that he has taken it.

Or he was paid off and theres no need for any of that. Not everyone who leaves with immediate effect is escorted out of the premises. This is much more than just performance related issues, this is something far far worse than that.
Here is the official Honda statement:

Do you guys seriously think that's what Honda is putting out for a guy that's worked for them for 30 years and is on the TV virtually every weekend taking about the racing, for any remotely normal end of employment?
