Never really nod, typically just put my hand up a bit to acknowledge

When in Germany I often do a salute angel

Just as well it’s inconvenient to use the right hand for that.

Almost since i got my bike licence in 2009, nodding at other bikers has felt a bit stupid.

Now i live on the continent, and nodding has now become sticking your hand out to the side in a peace sign, which is even less convenient and more annoying.

Where does this come from?

When i go out on a sunday it feels like i spent 20% of the ride acknowledging that other people also ride motorbike.

Ironically, when you get to any bike parking, hardly anyone says hello..

Like it, love it, or hate it?
How is it less convenient unless you're on the clutch at the time?

My dad did it, I do it.

I just think it is a nice thing to do, part of the community and all that.

I wave vigorously at Harley riders because they're far too serious and ruffty tuffty to nod back.

I remember in the 70s and 80s all bikers would flash their headlights to acknowledge each other. Obviously that could have had disastrous consequences so people started to nod. I'm a big fan of it and always will be and always love riding on the continent using their two fingers down thing.

To all the folks who don't nod, I say you are just a miserable bunch of Ba****ds, mind you most of them are younger so what can you expect. I will always stop if I see another biker in trouble too.

Yeah, agree, suspect it's an age thing...
Mind you, I do all my own servicing, and suspect that's an age thing too. I wouldn't buy a bike I had to take to a dealer so that counts out most complex modern bikes (post 2005?).

I nod, but I nod reluctantly and only because it's the done thing.
I'm no longer going to nod, unless I see a Harley wrong'un and he'll get a full on Team America secret signal wave.

I once found myself nodding to a convoy of bikers, approximately 15 strong. I must've looked like I was having a fit to anyone behind me.

It stopped being a “thing” for me once I moved to London. There would regularly be 5-10 bikes waiting at the lights coming the other way on the commute so nodding would have seemed weird

I've been raising my left hand or nodding, depending on the circumstances, for the best part of 60 years, and I'm not stopping, so there!

smile

Wouldn't do it on a commute or in the IoM, though.

always nodded or gave a little hand up or wave to oncoming motorcyclists. never. issue or problem for me.

As for talking to people or saying hello, 50% of this is you. So I never had an issues talking to other bikers as I'm always up for a chat. short or long
