Filtering, why don't learners do it?!?!

Well i enjoyed 10 miles of epic filtering this morning behind a Police Bike
It was like Moses parting of the sea
Must say he was filtering a good 10mph faster than i normally would, but due to how the cars were moving aside it was fine.
AFAIK coppers or other emergency services riders _don't_ like people tailing them as then they have to ride to keep themselves safe and keep you safe. It was like Moses parting of the sea

I cut to the front at the Severn bridge queues - it's free for bike so I'm out the way nice and fast. Do feel a bit guilty doing it though, but its about 3 seconds wait for the guys behind, and I get to avoid a 10min wait cooking the engine on idle, So i always end up justifying it in my mind by occasionally paying for the car behind when I'm in my car - karma must be about equal
That kinda thing I don't mind at all, it doesn't hurt and is a perk of riding. It's more if you're in a queue for something specific, like the fuel pumps that I get annoyed!
I think it's all down to what you're riding for.
Weekend/fair weather bikers usually haven't got a lot of traffic and "filtering/lane splitting" isn't really necessary when you only have 2 cars in front of you at the lights.
I started riding last year, my first day riding was a heavy commute of about 60km one way, the way over there I was just getting a bit used to the bike, sitting behind the cars, the way back I took advantage of the wide lanes to filter at all the lights.
For people who commute everyday I think it's a bit of a given. As said before, in good weather conditions, riding is a lot of fun, but in the winter, if I wouldn't filter, I really don't see why I'd take the bike.
As for the OP, if someone doesn't feel confident, doesn't deem it necessary, I'm ok with it, as long as they leave enough room for me to pass. The worst kind imho is the kind that wants to filter but can't, sitting behind any car blocking other bikes of getting through. How are you any different from a car that won't let bikers pass??
As for the question: "you're filtering and the lights turn green, do you join the line or go for it?". I go for it
