i've just bought this gts with 'panel' damage to go 750MC roadsports racing .this is a series for roadgoing sports cars built to a strict set of rules.i've run 2 lotus esprit racecars with some success over the last 10 years but things keep falling off!!!..i've always fancied a viper and then suddenly this one was there ,at the right price and already partly race prepared for an aborted viper series! now i'm not a wealthy man but i do own a garage with bodyshop and i'm very ingenious and generally (car wise)if i want it to happen it will!!
now this car is in a million pieces with parts coming from all over and i've been daft enough to enter a race at silverstone on the 27th of july ...will i make it? i don't know but all comments are welcome and i'll keep you informed of progress

I remeber the aborted race series a few years back now,
shame it didnt happen, after following the highs of Hayles then the recent lows of Brookspeed it will be nice to have another viper race car to support here

Good Luck with the venture

Well John,

How did it go? Did you win?, Did you finish?

How do you rate the Viper on the track.

I sound like a small boy asking stupid question..........I act like a small boy.....as any one has seen the Viper Club Le Mans Video can tell you

if you go off half cocked you expect trouble.....and i got it!! now bare in mind i'd not been over 50 in this car and as a learning curve it gave me useful information. In practice the car ran hot and a heater hose burst...limited track time! I discovered that the brakes were over servo'd and with a touch, the wheels would lock....so bye-bye both front tyres with huge flat spots
i repaired the hose and decided to race with the flat spots
well back on the grid but i had my usual good start taking at least 10 cars before the first corner and managed to hold in about sixth position
unfortunately there was a big crash behind me and the race was red flagged
new grid ..much better spot this time...another good start and holding sixth when the clutch disintigrated and jammed between the flywheel and the cover so no loss of drive ...lots of panic and fiddling for a gear found third .at this point the gearlever came off in my hand.....at least i finished!!
car now in bits deciding what clutch to fit and while i'm thinking I'M CONVERTING TO RIGHT HAND DRIVE
more on this soon

Mmmmm, nice to know we are exporting that good American quality around the world! heh-heh, just kidding around, sir!

You have a lot of courage to rebuild a Viper.

I wish you continued success.

We have a pretty large body of information for road racing the Viper. There are a few things you should know before going fast in it. But you sound pretty knowledgeable, and I'm sure you will do fine.

thanks vic
the viper's "resting" at the moment ....i'm not quite sure where to go from here....i may SELL IT and concentrate on my racing espritv8...i really don't think i can commit the funds to it to make it a race winner and if you can't win there is no point in competing!!!
