ok, bit of a request

one of the women at work wants to do something special for her daughters prom on 29th June in Waterlooville/Petersfield area

cant afford to hire a car but was hoping someone could help out for travel costs and a donation to charity.

Her daughter really likes Dodge Vipers (who doesn't) and ideally would like a Viper to pick her up but anything cool would be nice

can anyone help?

Hello, Not really sure if you realise just how rare these cars are in the UK? We only have 30 members in the whole of the UK!
You are also asking for someone midweek!

Sorry to say Its highly unlikely.

Also to say 98% of owners who used to post here now use something called Facebook!

That is why its so quiet in here wink Its a closed Facebook Group (whatever that means, I'm not on it).

Proms are well catered for oop North!

Did one last night, and got one next Thursday.

Before any comments about being illegal etc, I do them for friends for free, If anyone happens to give me a box of lager, all the merrier!

Start some interesting threads, there seems to be a few people keeping an eye on the forum judging by the replies when things do get going, its just nobody ever posts new threads.

Its not like the FB group is much busier either to be honest. Its just sad that the viper club is a shadow of its former self, Something probably not helped by closed communications in the VOA and event attendance and participation more or less being kept offline with the occasional picture posted afterwards..

I post up as many events that I get told about here
https://driveviper.com/forums/threads/17542-Event-...

But as Vice President of the UK VOA I do try to encourage people to join up and get involved.
Not quite sure what you are referring to with the club being a shadow of its former self? Some of us have done stacks of stuff including the Viper Euro events which are outstanding. We also hosted our own euro event last year with cars at Brooklands, Silverstone classic and the Mopar Nats at santa pod.

What I do find strange is that many of the long term viper owners choose not to bother attending many events, even though I have been posting up stuff for at least the last 3 years!
This past weekend springs to mind, Dunsfold Top Gear Track, giving joy rides, 3 laps round the Top Gear track with No DB limit, Free entry for drivers and food (basic but free). We could of had a club static display too if enough people signed up for it. I posted this out earlier in the year and only got feedback from 1 member!
Just 2 of us spent the weekend with 175 other supercar owners giving rides and we raised over £100k in two days.

Adrian Swift really tried hard to move the club out of its rut and a lot of people rolled their eyes. I for one thought Adrian did a Awesome job.

The Euro viper events are for all Viper members (UK VOA), German Viper Club, French Club (Viper passion) Swiss Viper Club.

People need to join up and get involved, it's all about what members put into a club that makes it great.

So where was the thread on Dunsfold rather than a line in a calender with no details of who was going like we used to do,

The last two lines highlight your problem, since money got involved many of the long term owners were left out in the cold. Even those who were and still could contribute significantly to the club in other ways such as time. (ever wondered why the driveviper.co.uk has barely seen an update for 2 years?) were cut off from communications and a lot of them were the ones who went to events.

Your not going to get a big turn out from UK VOA members when many of them are only interested in an insurance discount, yeah i get if there is a paid membership then you have to add value and i have made suggestions in the past to accommodate that and still include those who will never join or have become disenfranchised with the cost of the US club. VOE was a prime example of the problem of restricting events to members with the event only being a success due to the European cars with the same few from the UK, and I'm not sure how the club is a raving success, never been better, correlates with the moan about only 2 cars at Dunsfold, dead forums and lack of participation. But then the few that have done stacks of stuff are the same few who always attended and are included in the off forum communications, the rest of us either don't know what's going on or the extent of attendance and get disenfranchised when we see after the event photos.

Maybe try including everyone in communication's and attendance so they have a chance to participate and know who is going to things and then maybe they will see the value in joining with extra stuff like merchandise giveaways, discounts and subsidised events.

Anyway i have said this before, it wasn't appreciated then, doubt it is now and i should probably have stuck to my thoughts this morning of, keep out of it, after all its not my club, I'm not a member and I have other things on my mind and high profile public events are not top of my to do list at the moment.

I mainly have only Members contact details, I do send out emails to them and if you look at the other posts on the Drive Viper, com there are Other posts about upcoming events.

I like to think that we do encourage viper owners to come along to events and meet us, but some events such as the Euro events are for Club members only. You don't have to Join VOA, You could join one of the european clubs if you wanted, but there is a membership fee to be paid. With the OLD VCA membership fee it was subsidised receiving monies back from the USA. But this meant we never had a great deal of funds in the club bank.

We now have a treasure a proper accountable bank account for the UK region. This allowed us to set up Public liability cover for attending shows, (something we have NEVER had before). With the build up of funds we intend to do other things for the membership in the future. We have also spent monies on Club banners and promotional material. With membership fees we now do get a lot of money back from the USA and this is building nicely, and will allow us to do more in the future. We have also purchased Genuine MOPAR service tools on behalf of the membership that can be lent out to members that need a particular item.

London Excel Classic car show, was a great success, and those that attended really enjoyed it. (But it did cost us as a club to be there). You have to pay for carpet, lighting etc. Also members spent 4 days out of their schedule to man the stand and talk to people about the cars and club.

As for the UK Driveviper.co,uk website, that site is purely a link site to the main USA forums and information board on some stuff from the past. Its not an Active site (and was never intended to be) Its full of Old articles of past events and archive material.

The Facebook site is a closed group of viper Owners (not just members).

Barry Adams is the Current UK President, You may wish to contact him.

If you think the VOA is bad you should try owning a Harley Davidson, You can go down to a branch and meet your local chapter, but don't ever expect to go on a ride out with them as you have to show you are a fully paid up member first! They wont even let you go out on a trial ride with them.

Not sure why a thread about proms has developed into this, maybe another thread should be started?

FWIW

I usually keep all my Viper emails and the last ones I can see are from October and December, so I'm not sure what events are going on. I'm not sure how long since the last magazine - it seems ages.

I probably wouldn't attend many meets, as mostly they are 200+ miles away so I usually just do more local events/shows. I usually go to one 'long distance' event each year and make a long weekend of it (Silverstone Classic twice, Speedfest, Goodwood FoS, and many Mustang owners club annual shows)

I suggested a club attendance at the NEC Classic car show, and would certainly volunteer to have my car there and be part of the team on the stand. Corvette and Mustang club both have club stands - why not us?

Hi Paul, now believe it or not I have tried in the past to apply for the Footman James NEC show and twice we have been turned down because they deemed our cars not old enough! I find this a joke when you see modern Ferraris and Corvettes on stands. But they cover themselves by having an older car on the stands too. the other modern cars you usually see at the show are on Advertising promotion stands. You have to apply for a car club stand, then you go on a waiting list to see if they select you, Last 3 years we have been turned down!

Last News letter I sent out was March this year, (4 months ago) It listed a report on the London classic car show, mentioned upcoming events including Dunsfold, Silverstone classic and many other events including the Euro viper event. Also information on Goodwood events, Wilton wake up breakfast meets, club discount tracker scheme, Warren classic car show, Beaulieu supercar showdown........

I get the member list from Barry, so if you are a current member and I don't have your email address please drop me a PM and I will add you to the group.
Thanks.

Thanks Mark, I did get an email from you in October, but will PM it to you again just in case. Thanks for all you do in promoting events, I just wish I could get to some of them,

This year at the NEC the following are a few of the clubs not much older than Vipers, so we may be allowed in shortly

VW Corrado 1988

MX5 1989

Nissan Figaro 1991

We used to show at the NEC classic years ago, space was provided free for about 4 vipers for several years when the show was fairly new and of course the vipers were a lot newer then. Then one year the organisers wanted about 3 grand, we never returned

Yea, if my memory serves me right Steve K pretty much paid for all the space at GFOS and public insurance pretty crazy for just a piece of grass for a few days, think I may have a copy of the bill at home and it's something like £6k !

I have done a few proms in the past .. But only for friends or work mates .. They have always been done as favours never paid ...

Mark does a great job at keeping the events updated on the USA site under UK region.

It's an open site so no need to be members .

As for the events them selves ,Some are members only . We need to do this or there would be no point paying to be a member ..

It's down to everyone involved to come along or organise and invite people along to keep thing going strong...

The bigger events like motor show NEC and even wilton house I believe now charge US as a club to display .... seems everybody is out for money ...

A good one last year was The Isle of White ..
