Need a Viper for the TV
Discussion
Just got to say that I think the choice sucks.
An Iconic rare US handbuilt muscle car with a pedigree, three Le Mans class wins, Daytona and god knows how many National Titles.
Against a purpose built track car with a rear engine turbos and light weight, which has won nothing.
The Viper should have been against the Cobra or the Corvette or at least something front engined 550 or similar.
IMHO I will only watch the program for Viper Larry
program is a joke already as is the production company.
Not even in the top 20, even me on my first run managed a 12.6 in the 1/4......in my bone stock Viper.
If Venom was running on bottles he would have blown the Noble into the undergrowth.
PS I drove the first Noble off the line and loved it nearly bought one but the 911 was just so much better.
Just my ten cents worth.

viper paul said:Went the other way, from 911 to Noble. Horses for courses, but to me the Noble was far better than the 911. Have you tried the more recent Nobles Paul? They have been constantly developed and modified since day 1, so today's Nobles are significantly better in almost every way than the first ones.

Thanks Neil.
All washed, polished and scratched after trying to get it back in the garage quickly when it started raining yesterday. Not had a chance to inspect yet, but there's blue paint on the garage door post
I'll give the misses the camera, but don't hold out for any decent shots

Just back from doing the Noble vs Viper filming with Graham (viper_larry).
Good day, if a bit too much standing around.
What was the result? Well on the straight bits (short track) we both nailed it and stayed exactly the same distance apart all the way before braking at around 140ish, so it would be fair to say straight line performance was pretty similar.
Graham got a speedo indicated 180 using the full runway, while I got a GPS verified 160 (wasn't looking at the dials). Although not run next to each other, this certainly indicates that the 8.0 liter Viper has a higher top end.
Neither of us was pushing it too hard in the corners while close to each other, so there was no comparison to be had.
We then had to put our mugs on film and say why we liked the car, what was special etc, and why yours was better than the other. Graham was most generous and didn't slag the Noble... He didn't hear what I said about the Viper so lets wait until March to hear it Don't worry Graham, I wasn't too unkind
Hopefully some of Grahams photos will be emailed soon, so I'll post them on my website.

Agree with Danny (Goodlife) that it was a good day with quite a bit of track driving. Things got even more interesting when filming in car and I pointed out we were using the short track, not the 2 mile runway - producer said "lets go find it!". Had a couple of runs down and hit 290kph (180mph) on the second before a scarily hard brake
Interview was very unrehearsed so don't expect too much! I couldn't slag off the Noble - too good a car . Besides, all filming was done totally separately and not head to head.
Myself and Goodlife had 2 runs down the short straight together and there was nothing to separate us - great fun although the 1000 stone chips I got today took their toll
Anyway - one of the photos I took today is below, the rest can be found online by clicking this link

viper_larry said:Have to say that I was most impressed by the lick of speed your Viper gave. Having done head-to-head runs before against some heavy artiliary, namely a 360 Modena and a 911 Turbo X50, and blitzed them both up to 120-130ish, I secretly did think that the Noble would pull away to start with. No chance!

And the noise of you doing 180 down the runway, awsome - sounded like the deep drone of bomber planes in classic World War II movies...
viper_larry said:Quite. 1000 stone chips is no great exageration Do you think their expenses will cover a front end respray?

Anyway, hope you blow the Noble out of the water, viper_larry
Don't think there's much water at Bruntingthorpe .
The Noble will storm it (pun intended). Anyone seen this list recently:
www.syclone.freeserve.co.uk/rivals_cars.htm
Noble is 9th, Viper not even in the top 20
LOL, you know what I mean. I hope you aren't disheartened by the car I've chosen to support. Like you said, it's horses for courses, but I still recognise the Noble's strengths.
Nice pics.
Graham,
Well done mate thanks for flying the club flag and that of the car.
Nice car Goodlife must have been a blast is your Noble reliable?
Guy in our Motorclub has one and so far he is on first name terms with the AA its broken down so much.
Sorry about the poke earlier it was not at you or your car just the choice that some TV people make to make a program.
I did men and motors last year and with there carefull editing I nearly looked a complete Knob!!!

No worris viper paul, no offence was taken.
My Noble has been 100% reliable. Overall, as total production of all Nobles M12's has only been around 300, the number of breakdowns has been mainly concentrated around the earlier cars. The factory are incredible with their level of customer service, and have constantly tweaked and refined the car to iron out glitches. I've not heard of ANY major issues with the current '3R' cars.
